I was thinking of getting myself an iPod Touch but now I have reconsidered and am after an ipad 64gb. Looks like it will be an awesome video and music player. Plus I can use it for downloadable books and wi-fi stuff as well. Looks to be a killer piece of gear. Any of you guys have one on order? I'm worried that the first batch may be glitchy. I might wait a few months to read some reviews. What do you guys think of this piece of gear?

I don't think they will be glitchy. But I am going to wait for the second version to come out. I already have an iPhone that does the pretty much the same thing as the ipad if not more.

I'm not but then again I don't really understand what its for. I'll stick with my laptop and Iphone for now.

Ditto, I'm not really sure how it's an improvement over either my iPhone or notebook. Plus, the name is a bit, well, offputting...:barf:

The iPad is an over sided ipod touch with a faster CPU. If Apple adds Multi-tasking to it, then IMO they will have something really good. Would even consider one then. But for now, I'll hold off. It's a luxery item and I'd rather put my money towards a 2 burner camp stove or cabin tent or something along those lines.

i think that its a cool idea...as said above, its a luxury time...but if i were to get one, i wouldnt buy a 1st gen one...apple will come out with a new version in a year or so...just like the iphones...so for now ill stick to my trusty macbookpro and iphone:D

I'm getting it mainly as a video player for my iTunes stuff. Apparently iTunes video won't play on anything other than an ipod as it is encoded and protected. And I want something with a large screen. Since I've already invested so much money in my itunes downloads, I'll stick with apple. Now another option is a tablet PC. Anyone know a good small tablet (one with about a 9" screen) that can run the itunes jukebox. Needs to have decent battery life.

I guess you could call it that, but for me it'll be a video player that takes up the same room as a magazine. That lack of a keyboard is important for me as it will help me use it on the go and at the gym while running. Our tread mills and elipticals have a little shelf where you can place a book or a magazine. Won't hold anything with a keyboard. So I look forward to having something with a large screen that is flat and portable so I can watch my favorite TV shows while running. Running for an hour is mind numbing without something to entertain you.

I want one badly, but will have to wait a few months. I drank the Apple koolaid a long time ago and have loved every product of theirs that I have owned.

The specs page is kind of buried under various "features" pages at the apple site, but I found it here:

http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/

apple advertises the iPad as having 10 hours of battery life using wifi, movie or music time, though why music alone should have the same battery drain as video images is beyond me.

The basic model is wifi only, an upgrade model has wifi and 3G both. For only .1 lb. penalty, the 3G would be worth it to me based on my experience with my iPhone.

The iPad seems to fit what you are wanting it to do, so I say go for it and let us know what you think!

well it sounds like its what your looking for...i say go with a 3g one and give us a full review of it...

Just repeated the post above me...oops haha

It is the dumbest thing Apple has come out with yet, and the sad thing is people will still line up to buy it. Makes me sad.

No iPad here. I've got a Netbook with a big hard drive and a Linux OS that's serving my needs just fine, price tag was about $300. I guess the only downside is that it probably isn't magical or revolutionary.
What's the appeal of the iPad? It's expensive, offers very little storage space and doesn't even run OS X.

And it doesn't have an SD card slot. And it doesn't support Flash. And it can't even multitask. And it can't use USB interfaces without buying an adapter.

That explains it perfectly.

I think Infi-del hit the nail on the head. It's a viewer, plain and simple. It's best suited to viewing movies and photos without the need for or weight of a hard drive. It's like my son's portable DVD player without the DVD reader.

I think its a pretty cool idea, but one of the many reasons I got an iPhone was so I could get to 1 device and I run wround listning to an Audio Book all the time. One of the main things about an iPad is for the reader and screen size. I listen to Audio Books because I don't have time to sit and read, so the iPad is gonna have to be seriously cool for me to upgrade
