Anyone know how this fine down feed works? The lever slides the entire assembly in and out but the knob doesn't seem to do anything when I down feed it (at least, it didn't when I was dressing the wheel)

Will do, I like the idea in theory, hopefully it works in practice but if not then I have a traditional table mounted oneLol. I think I read your question right the first time, but then I saw the wheel dressing comment and thought "oh, he knows it's a wheel dresser". It's definitely an over the wheel dresser, I just figured the diamond point wasn't moving down.
I think those things are a better idea on paper than practical use, not that you shouldn't give it a try. Seems like most of what I've read about them in the past indicated that most guys preferred a chuck mounted wheel dresser, and couldn't quite get those dialed in. You definitely want to make sure your diamond has a good point and that everything is clean.
