Anyone else have a headache yet?

Yes but we get 5-6 of them a day, so no matter how quickly they disappear they still dominate the topics. I realize you and all the other mods have fulltime jobs and I'm not trying to disrespect that, or the fact that this is your forum, I just think the trips and photo and skills and advice threads should be the forefront, not burried under 3 pages of this stuff within a 12 hour period.

Perhaps you could contribute by spending less time arguing with Jeff about it and go out and do something to post about. Then you would get rid of the threads you think are "stuff."

Grr, I would be out camping right now if my Campsmarter shipment would come... all my beater knives are unreachable up north and the new ones I bought are lost in shipment. This thread was never meant to be an arguement, and I don't see it that way at all. It's a suggestion and a conversation about my opinion on what would make this forum thrive-that's all. It was meant to benefit, not rag on, which you and Jeff obviously took the wrong way.

We've all been where the new forum members are. Let them have their moment as you were allowed to have your moment. If you have no interest in reading the posts then don't. It is a benefit to have posts by new members. It allows the regulars and the mods to build relationships with them.

I agree with Mrs. Shotty 100 percent. This forum is not about a heiarchy of people. It is about the end-user, whether they have saved for 6 months to buy a knife (any knife) or whether they are an avid user and experienced woodsman. If we ever get to the point that we have to become "elitists" to wean out the "little" guy then I'll ask Spark to close this forum down and we will go away.

This isn't about taking away the little guy's moment, as I said earlier. It was a simple suggestion to combine it into one thread. It wasn't about heirarchy or elitists, it was about making more room for other topics of discussion. Take it as you will, you have my simple suggestion. This was never supposed to be a rant and I tried my hardest not to turn it into such. Obviously you don't agree so I'll drop it.

Not trying to debate you but it takes a good bit of moderation to be on here all the time organizing threads. This forum is suppose to be fun. Hell, check out Pelton's Black Flag if you want to see a real cluster f**k but for the keen eye it is the BEST forum out there on world politics, travel and dangerous places there is. I have found a lot of guys with a lot of knowledge don't care for structure or being too serious. When people start taking things way too serious they get to where they can't see the forest for the trees and information starts lagging.

One question for you all. Isn't this the ESEE knives forum? Yes ESEE as a company is about jungle survival first and knives second. I can agree that we see a lot of look what I just got threads and I'm guilty of it too, but that is what I like about it. Not only do we get to see new and proud owners of ESEE knives, but great write ups on usage of the knives. Also great write ups on other topics, bags, survival, etc. All have their own sub forum on blade forums but yet here we are squabbling about what is posted in the knives portion. Perhaps we should only post about knives here, and survival, gear and whatnot in their respective sub forum. (Please note the sarcasm in the last sentence). As Jeff stated no one should be discouraged or rejected from posting simply because they are proud of a new purchase.

. Hell, check out Pelton's Black Flag if you want to see a real cluster f**k

I'll second that! You can get some great info but it seems more and more you have to sift through some absolutely ridiculous stuff.

One of the aspects I like a lot about this forum is that guys here seem to actually SAVE up until they can afford an ESEE, then spend their hard-earned money and take pride in what they've bought and the fact that they own it and are excited about using it. (I'm on other forums where guys complain about all the nonessential stuff they just put on their credit card and then show pictures of the stuff on pillows or whatever that you just KNOW they aren't going to use anyway.:jerkit:)

Do I look at those "I finally got an ESSE" threads? No, but I did when I first started out and I would never want to make a new guy feel like we are a bunch of knifeholes like other companies and forums are. The ESEE culture is not about egos (not saying the OP has an ego), it's about the exact opposite. How many knife makers will tell you that the knife industry is mostly BS? The only other one I know besides Jeff to be that honest about the industry is Chris Reeve (a great guy, also).

So, I say make them as creative as possible and include some photos if you can, but POST AWAY!:D

I think it is a shame that several people voiced an issue here and you can't even look at it. So you don't agree, so be it. The fact is that at least 5 or 6 posts in the beginning agree with the O.P.'s sentiment. I also think you're misreading his concept. At least three people chimed in and said they found this forum to be redundant with certain posts and as a result, do not frequent it anymore. Jumping to defend your position is understandable, but so is reading the faces of the people to understand their thoughts and concerns.

We only ask that you CONSIDER the information we're passing along, BECAUSE WE CARE. Not the other way around. That fact, in and of itself, should encourage a respectful dialog. Instead, your posts take a defensive tone. So be it. The O.P. only suggested, as I have, that considering another way of creating space for new knife owners and people to generate a RP#'s could be considered for the larger good. I don't know what about that you find offensive, but it's apparent that you dislike any opinions that aren't in line with yours in this respect. Personally, I think you ought to just lock this thread and mine. End of discussion.

say it loud say it proud!!!!!!! I like knives, I have ESEE knives or rc, I wanna show the world!!!!!! good job!!!!

Amen, PR!

Personally, the reception I received in my "I have a new ESEE, yay me!" thread made me feel welcome. I get a kick out of reading about other people's introduction to and experiences with the brand. I get a kick out of folks' excitement with their new knives, as I had the same sort of excitement when I received mine.

It's one short, fun moment for new people, and the threads die quickly enough. If folks don't want to read them, it doesn't take much effort to not open those threads.

I can relate to PR in the sense that when i first joined this was the only thread i came to most of the time but lately it has become "watered down" if you will. BUT, i also agree with Mrs shottys post about allowing jeff and the mods to build a relationship with the new comers just like we got the opportunity. I will admit that i kinda wish it was like it was about a year ago, but seeing how much it has changed is only a good thing in the big picture. It just means that ESSE knives has very rapidly found its way into the lives of MANY more people is a very short time, in part (alot i bet) due to this great subforum. so as much as i would like to see less threads about "i got this or that", i appreciate how rapidly ESSE has grown and am proud to part of this forum. just my 2 cents.

I agree with Crocs, here. New guys want to be part of the family and that's sort of their induction. What else could we do? This is easier than jumping them in.

You can't tell me you guys find a new guy posting the knife he's proud of to be more annoying than having to pay to use a search function for crying out loud.

I'd like to see everyone lighten up, it's getting touchier than a Vatican summer camp in here.

I just have to get the last word in here. Many of you don't know me or my personality. The OP (Payette Rucker) is someone I consider a friend and a very serious player in the world we work in. He's the real deal. If he and I can't get on a forum and argue and debate then I would have less respect for either of us. Neither of us take a simple disagreement personally. Like Expat said, "it's getting touchier than a Vatican summer camp in here" and I'm glad Mike locked this down. Lighten up guys. If you come on here looking for an agreement from me just to save your feelings then you're in the wrong forum.
