Anyone else have a major rust problem with their carbon steel knives?

Let me check my carbon knives:

BK-7 (1095 CroVan) - no sign of rust, the edge seems to be a silver colour.
BK-9 (1095 CroVan) - ditto
Kabar Kukri Machete (1085) -ditto
HI Ganga RAM (5160) - this one seems to rust much more readily and with proper orange-red rust. Currently it is still wet with mineral oil after sitting in a drawer for the last 6 months (Winter only just over here) - no sign of rust at all.
Mora Carbon Craftsman - no rust
Opinel #6 Carbon - no rust
Opinel #9 Carbon - some black patina, no orange rust though.
Opinel #4 Carbon - I'll check it when I find the little sucker!

The amount of care and effort to keep these carbon knives rust-free: I clean 'em after using 'em, sometimes they get a wipe with some mineral oil (if they are lucky). I use my stainless knives more on a day to day basis, my carbon knives often sit in a drawer for months at a time - neglected but not rusting away.

I have chimed in on this subject before, probably a year or so ago. Sure, knives rust readily if they are not cleaned and taken care of in the proper way. I have a 154cm custom which has nary a pit or pock mark after YEARS of use in wet weather. My sweet and beloved Fehrman knives will rust if you don't watch it. We will never win the battle against the forces of oxidization unless you get Spyderco's wonder steel or fork over the dough for a Mission blade. Years from now, both of these brands will be museum pieces and will still be sporting a new, bright finish. My Basic nine gets a coat of WD-40 after the radiant fun in the woods has long since subsided.

I think most of it is just routine whipedown and coating. I used to live in Houston and Florida and in both cases a silicone rag made everything good to go, if that. How about a sacrificial anode? maybe a strip along the ricasso could help.

Nope...
I just recently got some of my fathers Schrade 1095 knives that have been living in his basement in a leather sheath for about 20 years, and not a hint of rust and he didn't take it out every month to oil either, they just lived in the sheath. I have them upstairs and they don't rust and they are still sitting in their leather sheath.

The only time I ever had a knife rust was a 1095 Izula which I stripped the coating off of. It was when I was in florida and I took my Izula out on the beach with me and I forgot to wipe it down. Yes, there was rust, and A LOT OF IT ... but that was the only time.

Try any of the following: Boker Cera Titan, Mission beta hardened Titanium, Talonite, H-1, Stellite 6-K, Boye dendritic Cobalt, or a ceramic blade in ZrO or ZrC.
