i recently ordered 4 coloured alox farmers from felinevet and received them last week... first off, thanks to tim for such quick service!

i discovered today that all four farmers seem to have the same problem: the hole attachment point (to which the keychain/lanyard ring is attached to the knife) is loose! if i push on the attachment, it wiggles back and forth ever so slightly. i'm surprised that victorinox would let something like that happen...

does anyone else have an alox farmer (or pioneer, or any alox model with a keychain attachment) with the same problem?

I dont think a slight amount of play matters much in a key ring attachment. I have expensive blades that have developed a fair amount of play which is what I would be more concerned about. In any case Vic will take care of the problem if it gets any worse. I do understand your frustration in that most Vics are perfect from the get go!

my recently purchased red alox farmer is perfect in every respect. bought it from amazon as they recently had these on sale.

I bought three during the sale and none of them had any problems.

I don't use lanyards and I found that the ring was annoying so I filed it off of one of them. I got the idea from someone else in a prior discussion on Bladeforums. I like the farmer much more now that the lanyard attachment is gone.

hello,

thats not an defect or else, the construction of the sak is that way. the splitring metalpart is hold by only one rivet inside and revolve an bit around that rivet, thats normal.

on my custom assembled ones that i do i put some threadlocker on the side so that wobble is complete gone. that you can do only as the knife isent assembled.

the quality of the victorinox alox got better in the last years, look inside, cleaner than ever, the stamping marks on the tools ar near gone, on the older soldier sak i have you see way more "flaws".

Not a problem. My old pioneer did that for the 20 years I carried it. Never got any looser than when it was new.

It's not only alox. All of my SAKs do this to some extent. As swissbianco said it's just because the part is only held in place by a single rivet. I wouldn't worry.

I often consider filing off all of these things, since I never like the split ring on there anyway. Only problem is I'm worried that one day I'll fall in love with some lanyard and wish I hadn't filed the thing off.

wow.. great replies. now i can sleep without worrying about whether or not my new knives are defective... (yes, the nightmares that we knuts have...)

but why do only some people experience this problem while others don't? does victorinox put threadlocker on some knives?

It's something that only hopeless obsessive compulsive people notice. lol.

It's usually pretty tight in my experience, and really only noticeable if you try to wobble the thing around the axis of the rivet.

Just sometimes you notice it because you're fiddling I think. Otherwise it could likely go unnoticed for quite a while.

no threadlocker, on some the rivets are tighter, so that part dont move as mutch as others...if you can select your sak out of say 10 pcs then you may find one that wont move...the threadlocker os ised on my custom assembled ones only, because i like that this part, on alox or standart, dont move. ift youst personally;)

My red Pioneer's keyring is nice and tight, however, I have felt it move at times. It's just the design; isn't a real defect. I think it's just a design characteristic of models that have the aluminum piece that holds the keyring. On the models with the extension of the steel backspring, of course there is no chance for play to develop there.

No axial, or radial play to report, on the keychain ring tab on my new red Alox Farmer. This sumbeech is solid.

Just saw those on the Amazon site. What does the "Special edition" denote? Looks like a regular Farmer to me?

Thanks.
