Anyone else having problems with "inclusions" in their Crucible CPM154CM? Its getting old.

I'm about to lose my mind with this. This has happened multiple times for me on finished blades. Take the blade to the final buff, prior to attaching handles, and here I see one or as many as three inclusions in the finished product that were not there after the final grit on my grinder. I'm not talking about 400 grit marks showing up that were not properly ground away by 600 grit for example. These inclusions are usually quarter inch long, wider than a hair, running parallel to the blade edge in the hollow grind...very noticeable and not acceptable on a knife put up for sale.

As far as I can tell, the buffing wheel is pulling out the inclusions in the final buff process.

Each batch of 5 or 6 knives I make, I can count on a couple of the knives being this way....infuriating, as this is my principal steel used on knife orders.

Well, yes, I have experienced this problem as the buffing was done. I found that I had to speed up the rotation, stay with the green, and try a little different angle if possible.

All I can say about it is the Ats-34 Admiral had was much cleaner than the Crucible CPM 154 I've got from them
in the past couple of years. Take your pick Hitachi vs Crucible-- How sad is that?

is it cpm-154 or 154cm they are both different but your thread subject says "Crucible CPM154CM"
so are you heat treating cpm or cm? and im not a knife maker, so im dumb on this subject, just pointing out im confused. ones a powdered steel while the other is not.

I'm agree with Mo2. This is a important point!
With 154 CM happens that you can see a speck of superficial texture, to the limit as an "orange peel" effect, I see the same on 440C, ATS34.
With the CPM154 or RWL34 I never happened.

I've had the same thing happen. It showed up while hand sanding and was around 1/4" long and as I continued to try and grind it out it got up to 1 1/2" long before I finally got it out. With that said I've made 50-75 knives with it and this is the only issue I've had. I get mine from Pop's knife supply.

I've seen this as well, it has an almost wood grain look at times. Has to be just the right light and angle to see it though.
aeb-L does it on occasion for me, but not as consistently as some others.
I'm often able to get rid of it by using a bigger buffing wheel. A faster buffer would do it too

Exactly the same with me...I get mine from Pop's too. Not blaming Mr. Poplin by any means...he's obviously the middle man. Great guy.

Yes, I'm referring to CPM-154....NOT 154-CM.

Pop is great and probably has the best prices around. I think it just happens from time to time and obviously is an issue from the manufacturer.

It doesn't matter where you get it from, it all comes from Crucible. I suggest taking GOOD photos of the inclusions and reaching out to them. They need to hear about it.
