Is actually pretty decent

Spent a good 30 mins in that section today at lunch. The coleman stuff is really nice IMO. Took all i could to not drop some decent coin there...

I could use this...and that looks like it'd work good.....

:D

i love their extending poles for doing tarps.

they only cost about 6 smacks usually.

Yeah I saw a bunch of new stuff last time I was there. They had some decent looking hydration packs and the prices were cheap.

Yeah not too bad of a selection, I even bought a few things several times because I was in a bind. took them into the woods/mountains with me and none of it lasted more than a few trips outdoors. I think the parka I take on trips is from there, that's lasted several trips so far. we'll see if it makes through 2010.

I dig that big Coleman Framepak...there are redoing the walmart and there were no prices...im sure it isnt expensive tho

im gonna have to head down to a walmart in the states cause the walmart up here hasnt really changed in terms of the outdoor stuff they offer.

A few weeks back I was in there and they had all the Mountain House marked down to 3 and 4 bucks each. They've now got the same varieties at all stores at full price again.

Yeah the stuff they have is a lot better than the stuff that had before. Not bad.

They have a brand there, "Outdoor Products" I think. Looked at one of the hydration packs, and the zipper pull self-destructed rather than open the bag.
They had trekking poles from the same brand. One of the locks broke when I extended the pole and went to lock it in place.
That was enough for me. Just confirming what I already knew, anyway, but it's pretty bad when the stuff literally falls apart when you take it off the rack to look at it.
Buy quality, cry once. I can't imagine actually trying to use any of that garbage.

'Course the last TNF pack I checked out at Bass Pro Shop, I pulled on a strap with two fingers, just wanting to get a look at the stitching, and it ripped off the pack. I've got an old TNF Exocet ruck in 1000D Cordura that's over 13 years old and had the crap beat out of it that looks almost new. They really don't make them like they used to:(

I don't really like to shop at wallyworld. Especially for gear that I know I can buy from a decent company and have last forever for not that much more. The only things I have really gotten from Wallyworld are a couple of Kershaws, and some gloves for hunting. The other stuff I haven't really looked at much.

match safes that leak, folding saws that break in 3 places within the first use, coffee pots that melt, what's not to love? Coleman gets five thumbs up.

I agree. old school 70s coleman liquid fuel stoves were awesome. Their stuff today is pretty craptastic for anything but light car camping in good conditions.

I wouldnt even think about trying to demand any kind of rugged or regular use from the gear these days.

what about the sleeping bags??? They have some for 20 dollars (3lbs at 40 degrees)

I was thinking of getting two of those to go camping (one for me and one for my wife)...

what do you think?

They have some pretty good stuff and some real crap, much like everywhere else a guy shops. I won't paint anything or anybody with the same broad brush. They have some new folding saws that I am going to try, they look pretty well made to me and i have been buying tools for 50 + years.

Wally seems to have gotten a bad rap with a lot of people. A lot of it I think is just hearsay.

Sure, as Jim said, there's some crap there, but there's a lot of good stuff, too. It's foolish to condemn everything in a store because you heard that some products weren't the best. Check for yourself.

I've gotten some really good products at Wal Mart. The same product that others sell for twice as much.

You may be rich, but I'm not. When you live on a laughably small government pension, you shop where you get the best deals: much of the time, if I couldn't get it at Wally World, I simply couldn't get it, period.

I don't know about you, but my pride certainly won't keep me from shopping where I get the best deal.

Never bought anything in the sporting section except for a 10/22. Just not my kind of stuff I guess.

I have a 70's multifuel coleman lantern that's sick, if it burns you can use it as fuel. But that is 70's coleman, pre-china days. This is the era of Walmart Coleman...

I wouldn't buy them for 20 dollars, pretty much junk IMO.

Look in the campmor bargain section, usually have some decent bags for cheap. Also the mil spec modular sleep system is good but heavy, it also can be found surplus for a resonable price and it's hella tough. Chris
