I know i am. I have an M2K and i can get that dude sooo sharp. I feel inadequate when i cannot get my other knives this sharp. I have dulled the M2K by accidentally hitting a rock and then trying to steel it on the back of another knife...cause more damage...but brought it back up to factory stupid sharpness in just a few minutes. Any pointers? I use stones and leather strop/compound on all my knives... In all honesty i want my Gossman PSK this sharp and my BK2 this sharp. I know it can be done but... im only getting "this" close to where i want it. I feel like a failure LOL.

Anyway...who else is like this? If they arent "mora" sharp they are dull???

and also, what is your sharpest knife???

I regularly get my RAT 7 to shaving sharp, it's a lot faster with thinner blades though.

My sharpest knives have been from Matt of ML Knives although my recent ones from John of JK Knives have been very close !

My sharpest knives are the ones I make from M2 steel.

In fact, they are the only ones I use anymopre...:D

And yes, I also DO have an OCD about sharpness.

I have a Mora that was the sharpest knife out of the package ever. My sharpest knife is a Kershaw that I've spent a ton of time on thinning the edge and it's AUS8 so it easy to work. Just gliding it over my arm hair going with the grain without pressure, the hairs catch and pop.

I feel about my Koster the way you do about the Gossman, I want it at least as sharp as my $12 Mora, but I just can't get it there, I'm blaming it on the 3V steel :D

As far as thicker blades, I used to think they just couldn't get that super shaving sharp without increasing the bevel angle or convexing. I was wrong, I bought an unused USA made Carbon V SRK and it's incredibly sharp even with the thick blade and probably 25 degree bevel. Whoever finished that blade had some serious skill.

Of course I consider myself only average when it comes to sharpening as compared to allot of the people on BF....

I get stoopid with my sharpening.... finish strope at about 15000grit.... I just ordered 60000 grit lapping sheets. It takes time to get consistantly "scarey sharp" edges.

.... but the edge is only the begining of having a knife that truly cuts well.

15,000 and 60,000 now that is some fine stuff! I go down to 2,000 or 3,000. Yep I have SOCD.

I just get the knife to where I know it will be usable. Unless it is for sharpening for others that I know can use a knife properly. Than I make it as sharp as possible ;)

yeah.....ocd.....I sharpened mine past the hair shaving test.....then I cut myself thinking it wasn't sharp enough.....all of mine are 1095, which doesn't take long to get scary sharp.....my breeden and landi are the sharpest...

Check out the sharpening vid on my forum. Once you practice my technique and get it down, it works very well. Diamond abrasives IMO, are the only way to go.

Thank you very much Scott! I have viewd that vid and will give it a try. I do need to get a diamond hone first!

Still loving that lil dude! (PSK JR)

BTW guys, if you didnt already know, Scott produces a fine piece of steel!

OCD? Nah, as long as it's at least shaving sharp, then I don't worry about it.

I just work through the grits on my DMT's, finishing with Extra Extra fine, and then hit it with a strop.

My BK-2 is only slightly more than shaving sharp; I'm not even sure if it would whittle hair, so obviously, I'm not compulsive about it.

Thanks for the compliment. Check out DMT abrasives. Next to eze-Lap, they are the best there is. They make super high grit sharpeners.

I use a EdgePro and then finish with a 4 sided leather strop.
I've applied diamond paste to it. I have 5,000 14,000 50,000 and 100,000
I typically use only the 5k and 14k to get my blades hair popping sharp.
My Leatherman Wave, that I always carry, is hair popping sharp all the time.
I love to see peoples expressions when I tell them to be careful when they borrow it!
I also use the above on my Rat 7 and have that shaving sharp, but not hair popping.
I use it to batton and so hair popping isn't necessary :-)
