Anyone else wish there were more modern folder designs with carbon steel?

I'd love a traditional ebony scaled lockback in O-1. There are other steel/knife combo's I'd like too. I aknowledge there is a smaller market than there is for stainless blades. Some have strong feelings about it too. That's their business, not mine. I grew up using carbon and alloy steels and stainless was mostly looked down on for performance. There is no real reason to look down at today's stainless alloys but I still like what I like just as everybody else does.

As long as the blades are clearly marked there should not be a problem. Don't like it, don't buy it.

I'd love to see that! And would definitely buy one or more if the design and Choice of steel were according to my prefs. 1095 or White paper steel to name just two.

I've had this very same wish. I love knives with one handed opening, locks, and pocket clips. But I love carbon steel.

Simple combination isn't it?

Not really, anyone who has ever owned a Sig Sauer pistol (I have 3) will attest to the reality keeping them rust free is plenty time consuming enough.

I have found knives in junk drawers and whatnot at flea markets. Look terrible but some oil in the pivot and a sharpening and they are back to service. Rust is only a problem if they were exposed to moisture and completely neglected. It is a non issue if you know preventative maintenance. If you're the type who never changes your oil at the proper intervals then maybe carbon steels aren't for you.

Crom...a Robert E. Howard fan?

For those of you who are afraid of carbon steel maintenance, a bit of mineral oil (baby oil, unscented) or vaseline on the blade and wiping off all the excess, is all it takes. That way, you can still cut food. Simple.

In dry weather like CA worrying about rust is near nonexistent, I would love a carbon folder. Living here, worrying about rust has been replaced with watching a nice patina grow.
