Anyone else with ZT0801 having problems with the pivot ?

Today I finally saw theapostleP review of ZT-0801 and it seems that he thinks that the pivot is the main problem of the knife loosening with each flip of the blade. I went to check on mine and it does not seem to have the same problem. On the same note too he seems to fancy LionSteel SR1 which seems to have the same type of pivoting system or am I missing something here ?

Anyone else with similar experience ?

I can't say I've experienced this issue and I carry my 0801 quite often.

Odd you post this now. I was just looking at my new 0801 (been my EDC since I got it a week ago) and it was off-center. Sure enough, pivot had come loose.

Like Therealtwitch suggested, a drop of blue loctite is what I'm going to do.

Mine works flawlessly, I've been using it quite often ever since I bought it.

By the way, for a knife he hasn't used at all, that TheApostleP fellow made a really long review. He also goes on about the blade being hard to sharpen, I certainly don't agree with that. Come on, it's a pretty simple blade shape and he's supposed to be a professional sharpener.

If I were in the US and something like that happened to me, I'd just return the knife to ZT (before sending it off to be sharpened).

Never heard of the guy but it's not a ZT problem, it's a a pretty common occurrence, especially if they are excessively played with. My XM had this happen. You could tighten the pivot with your thumb nail but after a few flicks it was loose. Nothing a dab of blue locktite can't fix.

I had a pivot issue on one but nothing just tightening the pivot screw did not fix. No offense to the reviewer but I think a 31 minute review on any knife is a bit of overkill so I did not watch much of it.

Didn't sit through the review (way too long), but from other comments, it sounds like it could be addressed with a drop of threadlocker or about an inch of thread seal tape. I haven't had the pivot screw loosen on either of my 0801's, and they've been flipped a LOT (it's just too addictive a model to flip incessantly).

I think that's what he did in the end too

No problems here with my 0801. I've had it since May.

Teflon tape is what I used on my SR1A and just a out all of my other folders. It's easier to apply and more importantly easier to disassemble.

Here's a paragraph that comes with almost eavery e-mail I've gotten from KAI repair.

You have the option of adding blue Loctite to the threads of the handle, pocket clip and pivot screws to ensure a tight fit. Loctite can also be purchased at any hardware store. Allow the knife to dry for 24 hours before using again.

You can tell the dude thinks he knows it all. I've seen a couple of his other videos. I think the dude just likes to hear himself talk.

Like everyone else has said, a drop of Loctite will solve the issue. My 0801's pivot would loosen but even I knew there were ways to fix it. And I'm not a professional knife sharpener who makes 30 minute knife overviews.

Just noticed mine doing this yesterday. Like everyone said, I am going to loctite it as I have done with all the other pivots or screws that have come loose on any of my other knives. No problem.

In the video, after much jaw flapping, he mentions the owner of the ZT used loctite, to which he adds, used a lot.

This is key. Let it sit for 24 hrs before using it. I've done the loc tite and not waited and sure enough it came loose again. It's key to let the loc-tite dry.

Oh and as a fellow YouTube knife reviewer I'm glad I read this thread. I try to keep my reviews short and sweet, I figure a lot of us don't have the attention span to sit through a 30 minute knife review.

No problems whatsoever with the pivot loosening on my 801...I love it and flip it A LOT :)

The underlining problem with 0801 and the likes is with the thrust bearing on the pivot lacking proper support. Titanium liner sides has no harden washers, the inner thrust bearing does rotates on the harden knife tang.

Thrust bearing needs hardened ground flat washers on both side to support the harden middle balls. Proper functionality is adjust to achieve very little clearance/play for intended design. Hardened balls will wear into the soft titanium with multiple flipping.

Blue Loctite will not cured the excessive clearance caused by the one sided thrust bearing wear into the titanium.

Indeed. Personally, I like making longer videos, but the people don't watch them. Unless it's a SAK collection. ;)

I have seen no wear on the titanium of any bearing knife I have. This includes two that have seen regular use for over a year.
