Anyone engraved one of their knives?

Was kicking around the idea of doing a engraving myself on my new Scorpius SS handle. Got my Dremel and an idea. Anyone done so on one of their toys?
 
Engraving is really hard to do with a dremel. It's a little low on the RPMs for smooth cutting IMO.
 
Before I would ever try something like that I would see if I could get some scrap 300 series or maybe 410 stainless steel and do some practicing. If it turns out that you suck or the dremel is the wrong tool, you don't want to find that out on your knife handles.
 
I would practice on scrap first. And I would only engrave my own knife if you plan to do a random pattern like a web, cracks or lightning or something. Not something like an intricate design or fonts.
 
All very good advice. I think you all may be right: maybe the Dremel isn't the tool for the job. I had planned on a small design but think I'll hold off.
