have you ever gotten a new knife and showed it to someone only to be asked "isnt that just like the other one you have?" i got one in the mail yesterday and a few people saw it and asked me the same thing...and when u try to explain different steels and scales they look at you like you have 3 heads haha

i get that all the time... most people think I am insane for spending so much on knives and having so many knives. Only spent $600 in two weeks and have a total of about 50 knives, not too bad : )

Not really...because I do not show people my knives very often.

However, to their point...most of my knives (even to a knife nut) are quite similar. I think we all have preferences and our collections may show it.

There are certain handle shapes, materials, lock types, and blade geometries I prefer in folders. There are some things I can not stand...based on these few aspects you might (correctly) state that any of my knives (that I actually carry and use) are a lot like others I have.

I don't show my knives to anyone really. Even if I did, what's it to them? I don't care what they think.

I get that question quite often. Last time I bought 2 folders with black coating so "they were the same"... :S

i dont care what people think, but i dont mind showing people if they ask to see, i just find it humorous

I only show my knives to my son and a couple of others who know when I pull a knife out to show them that it is something new and something they know is different from anything I've shown them. They figure, "why would he show me something I've already seen?":D This topic can also fall in the "you paid HOW MUCH for THAT?" category.

My wife says that all of the time. I'll then say isn't that new purse just like the others you have?

I don't even bother anymore. Some are interested and I'll share info otherwise I don't even show them my knife/knives.

I went through an "acquisition phase" where I had to have every knife that came up in the forums or on YouTube that was COOL & must have. I ended up with about 50 or 60 folders and about 15 fixed.

After a couple of years I realized that I never even carried them but hoarded them like golden eggs or something. I sold them down to the ones that would truly break my heart to part with and have it down to about 20 folders and 1/2 dozen fixed. I'm very content and have more than I'll ever need. Just my $.02 :)

Have you ever had your wife or girlfriend buy a new purse and you say "Doesn't that hold stuff like the rest of your purses.... lol"

CZIV, yeah, I agree with you as that's where my thinking is now too. I see it as fine tuning my likes / dislikes, dialing in to what I really appreciate about this wonderful hobby. Kind of like a person who appreciates fine wine or art after experiencing some of the stuff that is out there.

Now I just gotta sell off all the early "puppy love" fascinations!

I started "collecting" knives when I was 18 and living with my mom. Couldn't afford much but got the best I could afford. My mom said they all looked the same. I told her all her jewelry looked the same. She suddenly realized that knives were my guy jewelry.

When the question comes from a woman, ask her about shoes. How many pairs of shoes do you NEED? How many pairs of shoes do you have just because you WANT them? :)

If anyone happens to see some of my knives when they come over, & I have had this question ask, my usual reply is "Didn't you just spend $500 on that new driver (golf), rod & reel (fish), XD-9 (handgun), etc. etc. To each his own, & that is what makes this world so wonderful . . .
Be safe.

Why even ask knife-dunces their opinion? There's too much ignorant crap going on in life already, we don't need to add to it.

Don't show them nuthin.

I say, "Yes. I have three of everything because that's what makes me happy. My girlfriends aren't too crazy about the idea, though!"

I get the blank, lost, what are you talking about look all the time when I try and discuss the difference between the knives I own or want to own. Some people (namely the wife) just don't get it. what to do, what to do??
