Anyone ever had a Kershaw assisted open knife open in your pocket?

Is that an assisted opening knife in your pocket? I hadn't heard that one before but, at the risk of being censored, I think I'll leave this one alone.

A little off topic: My father had a leopard cub (not assist) open up in his pocket in a movie theater. Opened him up three inches on the forearm. He said, "You should have seen the popcorn boy's face".

The Scallion, yes.

The Leek, no. For some reason the Leek is a little harder to open than the others. It is the perfect balance, IMO. Resistant enough to never open in the pocket, yet still flies open ultra fast when you want it to. I superglued the manual lock in the unlocked position. I'll pass on the others until they make them a little "stickier" like the leek.

wow how did that happen? I love the TR knives. I have a Runt III myself that I love.

But I've never had any auto or assisted opener open in my pocket, safety or none.

i dont really know how it happened... a combination of tight pants plus cramped sitting position plus speed and tight turns i suppose... i stood up from the kart and it was half open in my front right pocket. :thumbdn: ... no ones fault but mine...

I've carried a Kershaw ever since they came out, they make a great money clip. I own about 13 in all colors and models, cilpped on my pocket and loose, mostly unlocked, and have never had one prematurely open, although I was picking up an assisted opening Buck knive off my work bench and it opened up giving me 6 stiches and nerve damage in my finger.

Thanks to this thread I'm keeping my Scallion locked while it's in my pocket. I don't worry about the knives clipped to my pocket so much but when I have them loose I worry about them.

Plus, if you have the knife clipped to your pocket tip up with the blade facing the rear of your pocket I don't see how it could ever come open. :) That's how I carry my Leek.

I have two kershaw AOs, and honestly, I'd be more concerned if they made a tip up paramilitary.

The secret to most of these AO's real safety is the flipper. You'll find this is true of non AO flipper based knives too. The superior leverage the flipper offer allows knifemakers to use far more resistant ball detents.

Nope, never had a issue with either of my Leeks, I do use the safety though.

Yam, I can disengage the safety with my pinkie & have the blade open in no time. Thumb & middle finger pinch to pull it off pocket it's clipped to, rotate wrist outward so knife sides into palm & your good to go - easy-peasy.

My Chive will open on you whenever if you don't use that little lock on the handle. After a while, I started to realize that the 1/100th of a second I saved with the assist feature was being overshadowed by that full second it took to unlock the tiny little lock so I could use my assisted open knife. It is one of the slowest knives I own when I have to unlock it before I can open it.
