Anyone ever have an assisted opening knife open accidently?

I disagree with your last statement completely. If yours opened somehow (I still don't see how it would unprovoked), the Leek does have a lock on it.

IMO, if someone opens a knife enough to activate the A/O, then they already opened it enough to cut themselves even without the A/O.

I have carried many other knives for years and have never had one open in my pocket. Using the lock on an AA is not logical at all. Perhaps it was just the one I had. Regardless, I did not find it a usefull function and I deemed the knife a write off. Fortunately, I was not cut badly in either accidental opening.

Had my leek open on me once, flipper must have hit something. Didn't make me lose faith in Kershaw or flippers in general, just made me think about when/where/how I carry when its assisted.

I don't carry AO often, but if I do, I prefer them with thumbstud only unless its going to be carried somewhere besides your pocket when you go to grab it. (blur, etc...)

Yea same, but I just bought a griptilian:) and I'm gunna edc this for some time and I bought a sharpening system so I'm a happy camper

kershaw whirlwind has snagged and pulled from pocket and opened when hitting the ground on multiple occasions. not a huge AO fan as a result. to each their own though!

I can understand why people might shy away from the AO, but if you play with knives you are going to get cut. Dont stop carrying an AO because of one opening in your pocket or it opening when it falls on the ground, just STOP dropping your knife. There are too many great knives that are AO to disregard them all based off of one.

Yep, not really sure how I didn't wind up cutting myself either. Went into my pocket and found the pack of my finger pressed up against the blade of my Kershaw "Needs Work". I don't like to clip carry so it was deep-pocket carry. I don't really carry it around without the clip now because of that. I think that my leg must have brushed up or squeezed against something to make it engage the flipper, and my pocket just kept it from flying open, but left it with the blade open.

Hey,
I finally got around to register to give my 2cents!

I have carried a Kershaw Shallot in my pocket at work(foreman electrician) everyday for the last 2.5 years and it has never once opened or cut me in my pocket. It is tip UP clip carry and in my right hand pocket. I couldn't give this knife a better review. I use it for everything and anything and it never fails me. I bet I have opened and closed it over 100,000 times out of bordem, and all that happened was the spring got slightly less springy over the years. Kershaw sent me a new one for free and we were back in action. I don't know about all assisted opening knives, but the Shallot kicks ass.

I wore a Leek for a couple years straight, tip down, and never had it open. Also a SOG Twitch II, same deal: never opened on me, ever. However, I did have a Camillus Cuda Maxx (which has a flipper, but no AO) come open just while sitting down -- luckily, the blade went away from my leg. It tore a nice, gaping hole in my pants and made me antsy for a long time after. Never had it happen again, but it came out so firmly and with such force I was worried about what it would've done if it happened to poke the other way.

Never had an AO open in my pocket, and I've carried several on and off. Depnds on how/where you carry them as has been pointed out. I once had a Sebenza open in my pocket. I was carrying in my left pocket so the blade wasn't against my pant seam, something (keys?) caught on the thumb stud and pulled it open, I got a small cut.
If you get an AO they can be perfectly safe as long as you pay attention to what you're doing.

I had a ZT 301 tip down in my RFP once when I took a tumble from my bike. I fell down a ditch and rolled over a few times, I managed to think of it and hoped it wouldn't open. Thankfully it didn't. So after that, I'd trust it to stay closed with less impacts than that.

BTW, I also had a Glock G22 with a chambered round, carried IWB. It didn't go off too.

Have a zero tolerance 0350. It opened in my pocket. I looked down while sitting at computer and the blade wall all the way sticking out of my jeans through a slit it had cut. Never going to carry that again. Could have cut my artery in thigh.... Don't like curved blades for sharpening. Solid built, sharp... but too dangerous to carry. Tip up, tip down, whatever. I'm not taking chances. If I bump into something, fall etc. I don't want to get sliced, and that blade would cut through you before you could even think. Sharp!

Had a Chive try to turn me into the worlds first 60 year old boy soprano. Just missed by thiiiiiiiis much! the option is to leave the lock on but then it's slower than a Buck 110 to deploy. Now AO's are relegated to the same use as autos, fondle while cruising the innernetz.

SOG Flash II. Yes I know it has a safety switch, but if I have to disengage it, what's the point of assisted opening. Or even automatic for that matter.

Kershaw leek. Didn't cut me though.

that's one of the reasons i got rid of my kershaw blur. I was unfamilar with knives at the time, still have alot to learn, but new when i got it and used it the first day i didn't want to own it because of the assisted opening feature.
