anyone ever mod an Izula?

I'm considering getting a second Izula just to tinker with it a bit. I figure I could turn it into a clip point, sort of like a mini bowie. Should be easy with a table top grinding wheel.

Hopefully this isn't sacrilegious. I just like tinkering. Anyone else do something similar or have thought of anything?

I saw a picture, I believe in the thread with pics of cord wrapped Izulas, where the guy filed the spine jimping to be more aggressive. Small mod, but it looks great!

I saw that one as well, but then someone from RAT commented and said something like the jimping maybe affecting the knife's structural rigidity. I might add more jimping though. That could work.

I wanted a subtle clip point. This looks tasteful IMO. Picture was taken from the-knife-connection.com before I added the line.
EDIT: Just a quick mock up from paint. lol.

Is there any sort of similar coating like the powdercoat? The metal is gonna be bare after I grind off part of the blade. I was thinking maybe putting some black rhino liner (is that what it's called?) on the exposed metal, just for a more uniform look.

If you could work the fact that the coating is going to be gone into you design maybe you wouldnt have to worry about it......maybe expose the whole spine or something..

There's a thread in the exchange for a Kreined Pacific Salt that worked the black coated and bare metals together like Mo-jord suggested that looks AWESOME!

i dont own one but im saveing. the first thing im gonna do is make it clip point and coyote tan dura coat it ! cant wait

Strip the whole thing. No coating. Clip point. Post pictures so we can see your handiwork asap. Enjoy the ride!

I thought of making the jimping a little more aggressive, however it feels fine how it is for the uses I will give it. No reason for me to mess up perfection

I was thinking about that myself. I have been wondering if just taking the coating off would improve the grip, but then you've got to deal with rust or oil where your thumb sits, so I'm not sure it's worth it

I'm trying to decide the best method to remove the blade stock. I have a table top grinding wheel I could use. I could also clamp down the Izula on a table top vice and use a dremel. The other method takes more elbow grease, but I do have plenty of different "grit" files.
