Anyone ever owned or handled a rockstead folder?

Interesting indeed :-) I also have 2 now and owned 3, I have a Higo DLC and a TEI ZDP. The TEI was my grail. Whenever I carry the TEI I bring along another knife so I don't have to use it, lol.

Ok so I'm not trying to be belligerent, just some dialogue... I'm confused by the above statement. IMO the build and fit/finish is at the highest level I've seen and experienced (supported by my 20+ years in manufacturing engineering). There are no flaws in design or execution. The statement that it is not "in-line with their pricing" implies that there is a higher level to be achieved and that someone else has achieved this? That Rockstead could and should deliver more for the price they charge? That you actually saw flaws?

I have handmade knives that IMO have achieved the highest level of quality and fit/finish, at half the price. But pricing is a totally different issue.

I also get concerned about the brittleness, but haven't experienced any problems yet, mostly because I don't do any heavy cutting.

I do struggle with the price of the TEI, and valuing it's worth. Everyone has their "point of diminishing returns"
Currently I'm trying to get a GTC, I know it's going to hit me for about $1,500-$2,000. I don't know how I will feel when I get it...

Anyway, I like the Rocksteads I have, they feel good all around, the Higo is a keeper and I'm still up in the air about the TEI..

Again, just some dialogue here, I'm not throwing stones :-) I've learned alot here on this forum and I appreciate you all. :-)

regards

Not throwing stones here either (sad, that semi-grown up men have to include these caveats, but hey-ho):p:thumbup:
I just find the highlighted parts a contradiction in terms.
You take umbrage with statement of a forum member, who has owned several Rockstead knives and who further more states, that he personally finds them too expensive.....but you yourself write, that you own a Rockstead but carry another knife, so you dont have to use said Rockstead.

"umbrage"... Actually I was neither offended nor annoyed... And apologize if I came across that way

Regards

Umbrage: A too strong word on my behalf, I realize that.

How ever, that wasnt really the point; you are 'confused' (not offended nor annoyed) by a forum members statement, that he finds his Rockstead knives too expensive, but you yourself state, that you own a Rockstead but carry another knife along with said Rockstead, so you dont have to use the Rockstead.;)

I find that a contradiction (but thats just me:p)

And with occassional stropping on denim with Flitz, they do not require sharpening for 3 YEARS. I've also sent them back to him for some work. He had them back to me inside 10 days.

This statement is pure bologna. You shouldn't be so gullible to believe this marketing hype. They do not require sharpening for three years, please. Process a few deer and get back to me on that one.

While my Rockstead is my favorite knife this far, I would have to agree with this.
Mine is about 2 months old, and I've had to touch up the edge once, and will do so again pretty soon.

I've done the denim with Flitz thingy, and must confess, I prefer my leather strops with or without CBN or diamond spray.

maybe this will lighten things up a little -it works great on pork belly! lol

I was REALLY amazed by the sharpness of my Rocksteads at first. I mean...I had never encountered anything like them. Recently, though, I spent about 30 minutes sharpening my Spyderco Tuff (a truly remarkable knife even if may be/is (?) at least a bit ugly ;) ) and can say it appears to be just as sharp as my Tei was. Not sure about edge retention, though...will have to see. Might suck. In addition, the Tuff actually IS a heavy-use folding knife with excellent fit and finish. I'm sorry, Rockstead, but I guess it was a honeymoon phase and the honeymoon is over (for me) :( .

Based on pictures, the finish on some of the Rockstead blades looks truly amazing - they just look extraordinarily "sturdy".
