Anyone ever purchase a vehicle from eBay?

One of the guys I work with bought an old Camaro off of e-bay. He did well, BUT he only looked at cars that were close enough geographically to check out, and made sure to do so before bidding anything.

I would consider it the same as buying a car from an individual, same as if it were advertised in the paper or parked in the yard with a For Sale sign. I wouldn't buy without seeing the vehicle in person or test driving.

If there was some unique vehicle on eBay that I really wanted, I'd travel to see it before buying. Same as using CycleTrader or AutoTrader.

bumped into a young couple that bought a very clean looking superglide off ebay. the owner was on the east coast and the couple lived in arizona. The idea was to fly out to the coast and pick it up and ride it back which is a great plan in theory however their trip turned into a sleighride through hell. when they picked it up it appeared cherry, they got about 400 miles and the clutch went south, pulled into a dealer got it fixed and off again. after a couple of hundred more miles the neck bearings went bad. the thing was that the bike appeared great so you don't know if the owner cooned these people or if it was just a time bomb and he lucked out by unloading it before it blew. Personally if i can't look at in person before buying it i'll pass. good luck though i'm sure people get lucky.

I bought my Kawasaki ninja off ebay. It was a tad over 200 miles away so it wasnt too bad. I just emailed the seller before I bid and cleared everything up front. I also got his ph # and called him a few times. Nothing seemed shady so I went with it.
It was a great experience, awesome deal and I would do it again. My brother has sold 2on ebay already, no problems whatsoever. one went to a guy in CA.

I have purchased 2 cars and a motorcycle off ebay.....no problems with any of them...*shrug*

I got a 1971 Nova for $700....:D

picked up a 78 Honda Goldwing for $1300

And bought THIS on ebay for 10k+...

All were smooth transactions.

I probably have more of an open mind about older vehicles than most...:D...I expect to find problems...so, I'm not surprised when they happen. :D

The Nova - I went and picked up.

The Honda - I went and picked up - put it in the back of my truck.

The Jag - the guy actually drove it up here for me.

Since the Jag was a high-dollar (for me :D) item....I talked extensively to the seller ahead of time. Made sure I knew what to expect...still didn't account for everything...but it was at least as good as the "in person" dealing I did to get my 66 Ford...in fact that was the only crappy interchange I had...

Bring on the ebay. :D

My brother in law bought a 3 year old Escalade on ebay and was happy with how it turned out.

My neighbor has bought a couple of cars and ATVs off Ebay with no problems. The good.

A friend just bought a 70 or so Nova and got ripped off big time. Bought sight unseen and the car was totally misrepresented. The bad.

Good luck,
Win

I have bought 3 cars off of EBay and had a good experiance everytime. Due diligance is everything. Run the Carfax and know what you want and what problems that car or bike is prone to and ask questions. if the seller dodges the questions or won't send pics etc. move on there are to many cars available.
