Anyone ever throw a Khuk? ;)

Maybe I'm a little crazy in the head, but I'm obsessed with throwing everything that has a blade on it.

My main love is tomahawks, but it's always a fun challenge to try to get other blades not quite designed for flight to stick into a throwing target.

My results with chucking my 18" Ang Khola weren't promising for the future of an international khukri throwing guild (though I did get it to stick three times. The first time I shouted "Yes!" really loudly because it was beautiful), but I'm hard headed enough to believe that there's a khukri out there that wouldn't mind being thrown.

Anyone know anything about this subject, or am I just some goofball that needs to get a life and stick to chopping things? :D

The soft tip makes throwing a bad idea but if I tried to throw a khuk it would be my 18in Chitlangi since I can balance it on one finger. I'm confident that it would rotate consistently in flight.

Considering even my little 15" AK weighs in at a good pound and a half I don't think I would wanna be on receiving end of a thrown khuk whether it hit point first or not. :)

I think Duvon mentioned throwing as a means to buy one time to either close or escape.

The problem with throwing khuks is the soft tip which will quickly snap if there is any lateral torsion when it hits the target.

If you can afford to take a loss - by all means, go ahead. :D

I would think that the throwing-est khuks would be the Kobras. They're not meant for chopping anyway, but they're light and tough nonetheless.

When I balance my Chitlangi on my finger it doesn't tip over, unlike my BAS and WW2. I would definitely go with a light and especially slender model.

Want to throw khukuris for fun and amusement? Two words, Atlanta Cutlery. Throw all of them you want at whatever you like and save your good khuks for doing what khuks were made to do.

Just my two cents......

I don't know much about throwing knives, other than some cheap little ones; which, by the way, are very soft temper and the tips would bend not break. You could straighten them out easily with hand tools. Then again, they didn't weigh in the 1 to 3 lbs. range, which maybe needs to be harder.
This gent makes some pretty interesting throwers and seems to make them fairly hard. Check out the fifth knife down on this page.

True, true, if I mess up a Khukri by throwing it, I know it's my own fault, but it's fun nonetheless.

Considering the hits my target was taking, even the non-perfect throws would've caused someone hurt. But I doubt I'd throw my khuk if it came down to the wire unless I was willing to give up what would probably be my best combat knife for a risky (at best) toss. It's no tomahawk, and even considering I'm fairly adept at throwing those I'd be reluctant to chuck one combatatively without a "plan B" weapon. It's just a recreation thing.

Well, well. An actual khuk designed with throwing in mind. Nifty!

If I were to take up knife making, I'd probably focus on things that I could chuck at other things. That guy has some really nice ideas--that thunderbolt's a little weird, but I like it anyhow. :)

Thanks for that link, Ripper! Verra interesting!

There are a few who can throw a khukuri with fair success. I've tried but with very little success. I'd not want to have to depend on my throwing skill. But, I have an old Bando buddy who could hit a playing card at 10 paces almost every time.

Wow. That's rough to do with a tomahawk at 4 paces.

That'd be nifty to see. :)

A little OT, but in the movie "Big Trouble in Little China" the 3 bad guys throw kukris as an opening move. I thought it was just Hollywood silliness. I'm amazed that a khukuri can be thrown. I'll take your word for it. I like mine too much to throw 'em. I have a hawk for that :)

I'll throw it only if it's a matter of life or death,Either it will stick or just hit the perp. He's going to be in alot of pain!!!!!! :D. Ripper they are all very very nice designs.:D.Did u design and make them yourself????SWEET..;)

in his knife/hawk throwing days could hit a playing card mounted SIDEWAYS at a 100 yards...or something like that.;)

He was very good. Practice, practice, practice.

They do not throw well and do not balance in flight. It may go to the old boomerang myth after you sighted your target using the cho.

SF has the right idea: get a bunch of cheapies from Atlanta Cutlery and go at it. The blades will snap and bend while the grip may pop off.

Twice, then the tang snapped off. That was a villager model, it appeared to have been overhardened. Even so, I don't recomend it, unless it's a khuk that's been designed for throwing. HI khuks aren't.

I've thrown a khuk with very limited success. I decided to throw it because it won't chop or hold an edge. It's a $12 Indian model that is best suited for use as a tent stake. Here it is shown with my hawk and my favorite thrower. It won't split a 2x4 at 30 feet, but it does a respectable job.

...well I was GOING to post a picture, but it says in the little "forum rules" box that I may not post attachments. :grumpy:

Hmmm.... time to send some email to the administrators and ask why they cut me off...
