I used my Buck 110 folder when I has a kid after finding I left my skinning knife at home.
Anyone use a folder as their dedicated hunting knife for like Whitetail?
Thanks in advance.

Dedicated no. It takes too much effort to clean the thing when done. I allways end up covered in blood, and the one time I did use the folder it was actually really a PITA to clean out the pivot.

However with that being said. I have seen someone actually use a Swiss Army Knife to gut one. I jsut chuckled for a while thinking of the mess he was going to have.

Been there done that Yans! lol

Dedicated? Nope.
I once used a Kershaw Scallion to dress a medium sized 6 point white tail. The blade was brand new and made easy work of the deer despite it's small size .

I use an Umnumzaan. It's easy to clean and works as well as a Dozier White River skinner I had.

My hunting buddy and his dad use a Buck 110 and a Bucklite respectively. I've even sharpened them up after:D Would not be my choice, but seems to work for them.

I use folders all the time . I will admit i wash them up at night or whatever .Its really no big deal . My faviorite elk knife from start to finish except caping is a spyderco millie in s90v . My favourite deer knife is a KOA featherlight folder . I do use fixed blades alot any more but folders are always on me .

If my math and memory are right I have cleaned 16 whitetail with my Buck 110. No problem, wash it out.

All the time. I have used a Emerson cqc11 and a BM Rift. I just soak it in dawn dish soap and everything is clean. Folders are all my family ever uses and we skin a lot of deer a year.

Had to lend my brother my Benchmade Ascent once because he left his knife in the car after lunch and didn't want to go back and get it. Worked out well as he got a buck that afternoon and did the job.

I used one of these Grip-Blaze folders from Outdoor Edge on this big boy in November.

Yes, I've field dressed quite a few Blacktail Bucks with an old USA made Gerber Bolt Action drop point folder. I now carry a fixed blade Bark River Drop Point Hunter (Elk) or Lil Canadian (Deer).

My dad has field dressed many bucks with a Case Stockman, and still carries it for deer hunting to this day.

My Grandpa used a Stockman style pocket knife his entire life to take care of a countless number of bucks.

Buck 110, Gerber Gator, and most recently, a Benchmade 710-01. The BM has open spine, so it's very easy to clean.

all i ever carried deer hunting was my uncle henry model 885 uh. i used the spey blade to gut deer with.

Yeah i have.....but not always.
I'll use my Kershaw StormII to field dress sometimes and use it to cut up the meat and use one of my khukuri for quartering, butchering and the heavy work. The Storm II is nice because of it's open design... it makes it quite easy to wash and rinse out afterwards. Highly underrated knife, IMHO.

I probably have field dressed ore deer with my old Spyderco Native than with any other knife. A specialty knife to field dress a Whitetail is simply not required.

Skinning is a different matter, and a well-designed skinning knife is a help. Current favorite is a Dozier Semi-Skinner.

My dad uses an old Cold Steel 4 inch clip point Voyager I got in the late 90s. He prefers it to everything else in his (and my) stable, which includes fixed blades. I think he just puts it in the dishwasher after using it. It doesn't seem to mess the edge up too badly, though, because it never takes more than a few passes on a fine stone or ceramic stick to bring the knife back to shaving sharp.
I think he prefers the folder because it's unobtrusive; he doesn't like wearing a knife on his belt.

I don't have a lot of frame of reference with skinning or butchering, but I did watch a kid do both on one occasion, and he preferred a Mini-Griptilian for the task.

I've field dressed plenty of them with folders, but it's not my preference. My dedicated knife is a Dozier Master Skinner.

had to use a case tiny trapper this past fall on a 125 hog, took quite a bit of work to get it clean after. normally use 4" case fixed blade but forgot it that day.
