Anyone ever use a head as havy as 2 1/4 lbs on a 20" haft?

Say Heah Guys, I have to agree with what is said in this Forum on heavy heads on short handles, I had a Iltis Oxhead hanged on a 19" White Hickory Handle, once to get it to camp it preforms brilliantly, I mean great, but the thing is very heavy and no way can be belt carried, it's a very thin axe and a 5" face, everybody laughed when I was having it made, but like mentioned it just plows through wood like a hot knife through butta, I can honestly say it does save energy as far as doing things quickly but just getting this heavy hatchet to camp can wear you down heh heh heh, but once it's in camp then blip, blap, blam everybody wants to use it and the praises come, but recently I got a great deal on a Mini Norlund, I love the Hudson Bay Pattern it's lite and I don't believe it was ever sharpened and hardly used, I want to have it hanged and use it for shelter building etc., I would love to have the handle made tge same as the old one, any advice please notify me, Thank You in advance

Any pictures of the axes mentioned? Did the Norlund come to you as a head only or on a handle and you want a new one?

Just asking. Finding an original handle might prove frustrating. If you have the old one, you can find a similarly shaped one new and work it to shape. If you don't have the original, find some pictures of what you thought it "should" look like and either shape it yourself or be done by someone you know.

Someone here might have something similar or you can pay someone to do one for you.

Sorry Agent_H for taking so long I sometimes get into this post but I can't comment, I got lucky today, again, sorry. Yeah I have the handle on it, the reason I want a new haft for it is its very dry and very loose and slightly rotting I think. But I also found out its a Norlund Tomahawk Hatchet. The size and all seem it's very promising as a on person carry prolly substituting for a larger knife, chopper. I was hoping if someone would make me a exact handle for it. Thanx in advance.

I have a two pounder hawk on a 19" handle. I've been thinking to stretch her handle out a bit. That extra quarter pound would definitely be the straw for me.

I'm getting to this thread late, too. My Svante Djarv Large Viking Axe weighs-in at a hefty 3 lbs, with a 6.1-inch blade and resides on a 14-inch Haft. It's a heavy hatchet! However, while heavy it's not unwieldy. And, like others have stated, an axe this heavy, on a short handle can waste a lot of wood quickly. It really bites into the wood.
