This is a very cool idea Pitdog.
I think the tip needs to be in-line with the haft of the spear. Otherwise, there will be a torsional force applied to the harpoon that will impede it's penetration.
Instead of a single edge, what about a double edge? The butt could be a small ring suitable for a pinky finger grip or for tying off the harpoon line.
