After having a few high end knives over the years (300.00 plus) Ive tryed to go back to carrying a cheapie knife as my edc, but i couldnt do it, i kinda feel naked without a quality knife in my pocket. I just got a new sebenza and feel complete again. Does anyone else know what im talking about.

I know what you are talking about. When i got my Sage 2 i find it hard to carry my delica or my leek any more. And now that i'm carrying a custom very little wants to go in my pocket other than it.

Im in the same boat. I rarely carry my less expensive knives at all any

more. I recently bought a Kershaw JYD Ti SG2 and Volt that I carry.

The quality of those 2 knives is right up there IMO.

I worked myself up to high end production knives over the course of a year+ in my knife maturation process but I also have periods since then where a few low cost, quality knives are piquing my interest. As it turned out, I have sold more high end production knives than I have right now in my stash because it takes holding and using a knife to know if I really connect with it. I can't tell by shear looks in a picture.

I have never owned a true custom knife yet. Came close a few times but slept it off before I pulled the trigger.

With all the high end Spyderco's I have right now, I still pulled the trigger on a Boker Plus Eskellebur 1 G-10 yesterday and it's on it's way today. I hope it's a good one and by that I mean a good iteration of that knife. I asked the dealer to inspect it before shipping and they claim it passed thier inspection so we'll see. That means out of the S90V, CTS-XHP, S30V, CPM M-4, VG-10, ,etc. I carry today, here comes a little 440C love for not a lot of money. :)

This doesn't mean I'm going backwards by any means though!

Same here it's hard to do

Edit: as in cheapley built not price, I carry a ten$ victorinox recruit everyday. But I DON'T carry a ten$ frost cutlery knife.

A well thought out and well made tool speaks for itself.
I've had tons and tons of crappy, cheapo knives in my life and they were typically the most dangerous ones - more likely to break under not so extreme circumstances.
I prefer to pay a few extra bucks for a better tool.

In medical terms it's called tolerance. Tolerance is commonly encountered in pharmacology, when a subject's reaction to a drug decreases so that larger doses are required to achieve the same effect. :)

well i carry multiple knives, 5 , which consist of high end stuff, ie sebenza paramilitary. and less expensive stuff, ie SAK ladybug. the 5th knife is a izula which is low price but high quality.

For me it seems to come down to how much I like a knife along with my wanting for some variety. I typically EDC an XM-18, but I wouldn't mind one bit to switch that up with a Kershaw Zing or an Endura Wave every so often. But after a while I love the idea of going back to the XM-18.

go without for a while and cheap drugs can still get you there

If by cheapie we're talking, Frost Cutlery, I wouldn't touch one with a 100 foot pole.
If we're talking one of the inexpensive Buck, Kershaw, Spyderco, Etc. models, I have no problems.

I carry everything from $300+ customs to vintage knives from the early 1900s I've bought at auctions and yardsales for $20 and under, so long as it's a quality knife I don't care how cheap it was.

+1

I carry everything from a $15 Alox Cadet to a $900 Large stainless damascus Sebenza, love my Ti framelocks but also love my FRN ZDP SE Endura

I'm a junky :D

I don't have a problem with carrying a less expensive knife as long as its still good quality. I'm usually carrying a ti framelock but can also been seen bumming around the woods with a mid range kershaw or benchmade or something. And of course I got mad love for my opinel and SAK. I get enjoyment out of all types of knives whether they be $10 (My opinel no. 9 which I use every day in the kitchen) my high end productions or my custom. I just got my first custom by the way OOO yaaa! a Koster EDC Prototype which is, put quite simply, The Bomb!

Nope.

For me "quality" is a matter of function. If it works good, it is good.

Personally I'd rather carry an affordable working tool than a work of art, at least for the time being. With my budget there's simply no way I could justify using a $300 knife for hard work when a high quality but inexpensive one cuts just as well and will last a lifetime with proper care. What can a small seb do that a Junkyard Dog cannot? The JYD is currently going for less than $32 online. I guess it all has to do with each individual's situation. For what it's worth, if I could afford to beat up expensive knives without worrying about damaging them, I would :D

I try to aim for value (quality to price ratio) when I buy knives. Honestly over the years I've found that apart from edge retention, a SAK does just about everything better than most $300+ knives. Its thin flat ground blade cuts great (while the edge lasts), and it can do tons of things that would mar a high end folder (screwdriving, prying, can opening, hole punching, bottle opening, sawing, etc.) I've been collecting knives for twenty years, I started with a SAK, and somehow I've found my way back to them. Now if only they'd offer them with better steel on the primary blade. Vic's steel is tough and very stain resistant which makes it great for the tools, but it's too soft for the main blade IMO.

Nope, I'll carry whatever I'm in the mood for - it might be a Sebenza one day, a Sodbuster the next.

Nope, I'll carry whatever I feel like carrying for the day.
I like to carry and try out all different kinds of knives. It would be a shame if I limited myself to carry just the expensive one's.
