Thanks for the excellent pass-around!

I have only one suggestion: 3 days instead of a week.

The Salsa pass around has taken forever to get around. (No offense, DaveH) It has lost its excitement.

You can easily figure out a knife in just a day or two - I'm sure every one of us will have it with us all day those first 2 days.;) To really get to know a knife, you'd have to have it for a month or longer and have a few real chances to use it.

Plus, knowing they had a week caused some of the Salsa reviewers to put off writing about it, and one even forgot to mail it off on time - very frustruating for those waiting. If you can only have it for a few days, then you'll be sure to try your darndest to reivew it and pass it on.

How about this: 3-4 days to try it out, 3-4 days in the mail. Then it really only takes a week, total time.

Otherwise, it could easily be 3-4 months before it makes its way to calyth...and he might forget by then ;) :D ...hmmmm....what's this?

Since we've got a couple of days before this gets started how does everyone feel about Pendentives idea?

I think the shortened time period is ok.

My feeling is though that a pass around of like this just takes time. And the other reality is we are all human and forget, so I think there is a balance between a fun pass around and it becoming a hassle because someone's on your case.

The other thing that might help is sorting names by geograhic location, the theory being that it might shave a day or so of each pass to the next person.

BTW, the Salsa is at person 7, the remaining list,
with the possiblity of some small rearrangement, looks like this:

8 - Pahl
9 - Maurice
10 - DFox
11 - Mschwoeb
12 - BobbyB
13 - Fishbulb
14 - D7reamers

It would be interesting to calculate approximate cumulative mileage/km that gets put ont these knives as they get passed around.

DaveH = just for giggles...
you mailed it 3/18, today is 6/20 - that's 95 days, or about 14 each. Not too bad actually. Any idea on the mileage yet?

I agree that geographic sorting helps, but nowadays it just means one day extra/less. I don't mind being #9, and wouldn't want to be bumped up/down the list just because I'm closer/farther.

About rearranging by geography, I see it as a balance between individuals and the project as a whole. though I agree if it saves only a day per person it's probably not worth it.

If I have some time, I'll try and get a rough mileage on the salsa.

IMO, 3-4 days per person is a good idea.

Another idea is that BurkStar starts another thread when the knife is mailed, so people won't have to sort through this "organizing the project" thread to find out where the knife is and each person's opinion of it.

Regards,

Johnny

I have no problem with 3-4 days and I think Johnny has a good idea with the second thread.

Ya got my vote for 3 or 4, hell I'd be happy to play with it for a couple of days, and send it on.:D

I think this time you're supposed to send me...ummmm...what do they have in Utah anyway?
I can only think of two things we've got that you don't. Snow and polygamists. :D The snow probably wouldn't survive the shipping, so I'll see if I can find a polygamist for you. How's that sound. :D

By the way, 3-4 days sounds like enought time to get to know the knife well enough for a short review. O.K. by me.

First of all I have no problem with 3 or 4 days. However I really think a week is best. I think with the Spyderco passaround the real problem has been sending it out on time. If you count the day you get it and the day you send it off that is really only 5 full days with it. Then again what is a day or 2? The new thread idea sounds like a great one to me.

I just picked up the 942 from American Heritage Sports. Also included was a benchmade warrenty buster tool kit that can be used by each participant to make any adjustments and to switch the pocket clip if desired. It looks like most everyone is agreeing to only keeping the knife 3-4 days, so thats what I'm requesting each person to do. Hopefully everyone will have had a chance to use it by the end of September. I will start a new thread for y'alls evaluations Saturday. I'm on my way into work right now so it will be Saturday morning when I mail the knife out with tool kit and shipping list. Enjoy the knife.

YAY!
I'd say 3-4 days too. I'd think one week is a tad long.
