I fell in love with SunnyD's sowbelly stockman on page 3 of this thread:

www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=653293

It's maybe the best looking production knife I've seen, however, I think that it may be a little bulky for pocket carry. So I went and looked at the Moore Maker website and they have a 3 3/4" Moose that looks pretty similar.
I've never really considered the Moose pattern before, but I really like this knife!

I'm still pretty new here in the traditional forums but I haven't seen a lot about the Moose pattern. I'm starting this thread to see and hear from a few guys about the Moose ... a kinda Moose show and tell if you please!

Here's a Case Classic in stag & 1095:

If we're including Bullheads in the Moose category, here's a couple of Winchesters (Queen):

That's a beauty, Charlie. I've always admired that one.

I've almost pulled the trigger on a Moose a few times. I'm not sure why I didn't  I really like the pattern.

That Miller Bros is a looker Elliott

That's a great Miller Brothers, Arathol!! I keep going back to look at that one!!

Mine is but a Lowly Case Moose in Black G-10, but it's been riding Backpocket for about the last month. I love this pattern!

Sure do like that one by Terry Davis!

I don't seem to carry any of mine anymore, but it is without a doubt still my favorite pattern.. I really should look at acquiring a sowbelly moose again, they still look great!

On the left, Case red bone and CV, recent production.

Case from the 1970s, with serrated spey blade, Etched "Michigan Moose" and a numbered bolster(not a factory etch or numbering, maybe dealer or club done I'm told by Case)

Remington Woodsman, 1985 by Camillus(although Blues and the other experts keep telling me that these straight equal end knives really, technically, aren't Moose)

This is U.S. Classic, well built low price imports, but my favorite shaped moose so far, I like this frame more than the Case stockman pattern above.

Hmm. Seems like I should have another, but I can't think of it if I do..

What's a 'Bullhead'?

thx - cpr

An equal end, double end knife based upon the "cattle knife" pattern.
(As opposed to a "Moose" which is based upon the serpentine (premium stock) pattern, both round and square bolstered as well as sowbelly.)

Usually has a spear master and clip secondary, but not necessarily.

So Terry Davis's knife is a Bullhead? (Abeit a squarehead:D)??

I'm afraid so, Charlie. Heavens, what shall we do now?:p:cool:

(See LGIV...page 191 bottom right corner illustration...)

Hmmmm. . . . . TD's knife has the EE handle pattern of a Cattle knife, but the Square bolsters of many Premium Stocks. Seems to me it's not completely cut and dried.

Well, one of two Winchester patterns at the top of the page I referred to has squared bolsters as well if you take a look...

...In any case, it's a fine knife by Mr. Davis regardless of nomenclature.

Why not ask BRL his opinion (if you dare)? ;)
