Anyone found a way to prevent destroyed pockets?

It finally happened, I bought a pair of 'nice' jeans...

The main way my pants wear out now is the pocket gets all chewed where my knife clips and my girlfriend yells at me to get rid of them.

I've tried sanding the g10 under pocket clips and decreasing tension on some clips but neither of those fixes work on all knives (eg: customs with sculpted clips)

I've also seen some people who've added a piece of leather to their pants pocket, I'm hoping to find a more subtle solution than that!

I know this isn't the first thread with this idea but I've searched and read and found nothing to end my ruined pocket woes.

So... anyone have a subtle, reliable way to decrease pocket wear?

Thanks for your help!

Although quite a few of my knives have pocket clips I have never used the clip but just keep the knife in my pocket. I never had any use for clips on folders.

Please don't tell me your "nice jeans" already have holes in them and run $80+

Just let your pockets fray, because a pair of Walmart jeans will soon look like designer jeans if you keep carrying a knife:p

All my pockets get ruined, and I don't give a rats ass...

My neighbor, a seamstress, is going to sew a piece of canvas on my pockets.

Carry In Waist Band (IWB). Its thicker material, and no one can see the wear anyway

I do it most of the time.

Yes. Stop clip carrying.

If you clip carry you will eventually wear the pocket. It's inherent with a knife clip for a number of reasons.

The alternatives are neck, belt or pocket carry. I pocket carry most of the time and use slipcases to protect the knife and make carrying more comfortable. Good, basic slipcases can be found at Knives Ship Free and there are a lot of custom cases and pouches out there as well.

Get pants with a built in leather tab on the pocket just for knives. Check out Wrangler Riggs Workwear. Lots of styles to choose from.

Everything wears out, knives, pants, cars, and many other things. You can prolong the life of anything but eventually there is a end.

If the wear is on the inside of the pocket, the handle is too rough. If the wear is on the outside of the pocket, the clip has a burr. Pocket clips are stamped out in a die that leaves a drag burr on the under side of the clip. Remove and inspect your clips for drag burrs and file or stone them off. Use an old nylon stocking to test for burrs.

This is one of the reasons I like the zt 0566. I never really like the looks of the one sided handles, but they slide in/out so much easier and still give decent grip. Get you a slab sided frame lock and see if it gets any better. I also like the wire clip on the sage series of spydies. They work great as well without eating the jeans.

Get rid of the clips, carry using a different method, or tell your gf you like the wear and get used to it.
