Anyone gonna bite?

Definitely interested, but still broke :(

Will be watching my favorite distributor for a price.

Anybody know what the usual time lag is between being featured on the cover of their e-zine and showing up on the vendors shelves?

Depends on the vendor. I'd say given the 'fastest' dealer (usually collectorknives' Early Bird arrangement), the lag time from e-zine to being able to order is 1-3 days. (I am sure there are logistics behind the scenes that make this more variable than I realize. Somebody please chime in if you think that's way off the mark.) Obviously this applies to knives that are shown as finished and not the bare metal patterns in progress, etc.

Looks like they've done a good job with this classic pattern, but in practical terms those disgorgers are brutal and the descaler superfluous. I have an Irish Imperial (Jowika) that gets no use.

More for me .... :D I'm just waiting for these to show up on my preferred BF vendors website - probably going to get three (one in each color). I'll let my son pick first, then my fishing buddy, and I'll take whichever one is left over. I may never use the scaler or cap opener - this has the one feature that I wanted as an improvement over my "regular" Ben Hogan ... a lanyard tube so that i can attach it to my fishing vest when I'm out on the water in a canoe or fishing kayak.

A possible mod I'm considering is milling shallow grooves in the covers to improve "wet" handling. I'm even considering turing the scaler into a light duty saw. I'm a big Hogan fan so this is a dream knife for me. I'm hoping it comes in around the price point of the other two blade farm & field folders.

Add a float to the lanyard. :D

You probably know better than me regarding Collectorknives. Old Hundred seems to get new stuff really fast because he's so close to the manufacturer. Either way you can't go wrong. In my experince they're both great distributors. And both Blade Forums supporters!

Maybe if the money is available. The size and blade shape would be very useful for fishing purposes and the lanyard tube would be great for attaching to my vest/pants/etc. As far as the other features I probably won't use the scaler, cap lifter probably some, and disgorger maybe a little.

Oh man, I've gotta have one. I've been missing fishing all winter, and spent a lot of that time looking around gun shows and junk stores for a fishing knife. This one will do nicely in the glow scales. Thanks for bringing this one up, it may have slipped by me otherwise.

As an update these are now available. I just ordered one up in KnifeBrite and will put up some pics when it comes in.

Bougth two yesterday (from Mike Latham) ... Knifebrite for my son and an Orange one for myself.

Gotta say, (and this maybe outside the box due to the season) but depending how thin the scalier is, it looks like it could perhaps be a mighty fine pumpkin carving knife.

Good call on the pumpkin carver, maybe I do need one of these! As a kid I carved a few pumpkins with the fish scaler on a wannabe SAK

Maybe I missed something but what is the steel on these? Being around water a lot I hope its corrosion resistant. Ive never used a scaler but Im intrigued by these. Since Im new to the traditional world I may grab one when I get home in Sept. Fishing is one thing I really miss!

It's listed as 420 HC stainless on the GEC site.

Thanks! When I went to the site all I found was that poster thing with no info.

On GEC's site, click on the "Collect By Pattern" link at the bottom left of the page header:

Scroll down to select "#65 Farm & Field & Fish." This will take you to a page with smaller poster-thingies you can click to enlarge, on which the steel is listed.

I like that they added the "& Fish" to the F&F blade etch. :)

I put my Ben Hogan in the pictures for reference. Knifebrite really does glow in the dark! Both blades are 420HC and the scaler is actually sharp on each serration ... it will be used to carve pumpkins this fall. Trout season opens around here next Saturday - I was able to give my son his knife this weekend when he came to town.

My question would be does the Cap Lifter work?
