Anyone got a PPT?

I'm contemplating getting the sprint PPT and wanted to get any opinions on it I could. I've liked it since I saw it online but I'm not sure about the size and feel. It seems heavy for it's size. Does it feel that heavy? Is the lock solid? It looks like a cross between a liner and frame lock. It's a little smaller than I like, but the shape of that blade is calling to me. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It's not that heavy, I don't mind the weight at all. I think people consider it heavy because they're used to titanium. It would be a shame to dismiss this knife because of it. It's built really well. The lock up is great, mine locks up like a vault, it's a frame lock not a liner lock. Considering it is a sprint you could buy it, try it out and if it's not for you then sell it.

I am one of those people who thinks it's a tad heavy for EDC. It's got a solid steel backspacer and pretty thick steel liners. That could either be a pro or con depending on what you're using it for. The knife is beautiful, and the action is great. It also has an interesting half-choil that's a little less complete than the usual Spyderco 50/50 choils, but still protect your fingers from the blade. The spine has jimping to accommodate both normal and choked-up grips, which I think is a really cool design touch. It's clearly meant to be used, and I feel guilty for not using mine more.

My heaviest EDC's are the large CRK Sebenza and the Umnumzaan. IIRC, the Zaan is five ounces; the large Sebbie is 4.8.
I don't like to carry anything heavier than that. Spyderco says that the PPT is 5.3 ounces. Only you can decide what you are willing to tote around on a daily basis. There is more to consider than just weight, obviously, but that is important.

I love my PPT. If you're wearing running shorts, you may notice the weight, but I don't notice it even when I'm wearing dress pants. Lockup is perfection. It slices like a monster as well.

It's a nice knife overall. I hesitate to EDC it just because it's so nice and a little heavier than I like. I have larger hands and the textured G10 and sharp pocket clip can cause some hot spots sometimes. The sprints finally seem to be drying up so now would be the time to get one or you may be out of luck.

I really dig my sprint PPT, like already mentioned, unless you're wearing gym shorts or serious about ounces = pounds kinda of guy hiking all the time you're not going to notice the weight. The lockup is solid and opens with authority once passed the detent, not to mention the awesome blade shape. I have zero hesitation EDC-ing the PPT.

Another PPT fan here. That handle feels like it was made just for me. It has a versatile blade shape also.

I'm torn between this and a Southard. The Southard is more $, but they come up on the exchange pretty close to the PPT.

There might be a reason for that. I rarely see PPTs for sale, this tells me they are either being enjoyed and carried by users or kept by collectors. Either way if I rarely see a knife for sale here on the exchange, it usually means it works. Just my perspective.

I have had my eye on one of these for a while too. Hope to see one at an upcoming knife show by me next month.

I have some rust forming on the liners. Anyone else run into the same problems?

Nothing here, but Colorado is pretty dry. It does make me wonder what steel the liners are made of. I'm sure you could send it back to Golden for W&R if you wanted. Out of curiosity, is it the original or the sprint? I didn't think the DLC sprint would rust.

I like mine, It is a bit heavy but not terrible. I wouldn't carry it at work but on my off days its not annoying. It would be a hard choice between the PPT and the Southard. The PPT is significantly cheaper... If they were the same price I think I would go Southard.

It's the original PPT. I have no idea what can be causing it.

I like the PPT, but I'd go with the Southard. (I got my first run PPT for $100...)

This thread made me realize it's been too long since I carried mine. In my pocket now. :)
