Good choice man I have the san mai recon tanto and even though I have more expensive fixed blades it’s my favourite one it’s a hell of a chopper and feels amazing in the hand I like the handle feel better then the magnum/master tantoI was torn between the Magnum XII and IX and went with the XII but I don't think the IX will be my next buy.
I'm thinking of the 7" Recon Tanto in San Mai for more of a concealable, non-short sword knife.
I just got a cold steel taipan in a leather sheath. Made in Japan. Went to see if I could get another but this one seems to be discontinued. Lucky me.So far the only models available have been the SRK, Recon Tanto and most recently the 12" Magnum Tanto. They sell quickly and prices are still higher since they are still so new. I'm waiting for the Tai Pan myself.
Treasure that Hattori blade sir!I just got a cold steel taipan in a leather sheath. Made in Japan. Went to see if I could get another but this one seems to be discontinued. Lucky me.
Is it hollow ground?
Is a rounded or pointed yokote better for snap cuts??
I have one of the new Master Tantos inbound. I have the 3V one currently. But I do prefer the hollow grind.
One change Cold Steel made, that is a overall improvement in design, over the Japanese ones, is the shorter ricasso/longer cutting edge.
This is just my opinion, but I consider the redesigned Master Tanto to be aesthetically one of the most attractive fixed blade knives of all time-I know it will especially be so in San Mai.
FYI, it’s still in stock for $129.99 at Blade HQ.
