Anyone got any Taiwan san mai?

I was torn between the Magnum XII and IX and went with the XII but I don't think the IX will be my next buy.

I'm thinking of the 7" Recon Tanto in San Mai for more of a concealable, non-short sword knife.

Good choice man I have the san mai recon tanto and even though I have more expensive fixed blades it’s my favourite one it’s a hell of a chopper and feels amazing in the hand I like the handle feel better then the magnum/master tanto
Line.

So far the only models available have been the SRK, Recon Tanto and most recently the 12" Magnum Tanto. They sell quickly and prices are still higher since they are still so new. I'm waiting for the Tai Pan myself.
I just got a cold steel taipan in a leather sheath. Made in Japan. Went to see if I could get another but this one seems to be discontinued. Lucky me.

At work, didn’t take pics yet. But WOW. $130 for a VG10 San Mai Master Tanto w/ perfect grins and 2ndary bevel. Actually digging it more than my 3V Master Tanto (which I gave a full to the edge Convex going on the tip). Just love the Uber slicey hollow ground primary edge.

Both knives are great! A testament to Taiwanese knife making.

Is it hollow ground?

Sorry, Haven't been on here in a while. Yes it is hollow ground, as others have said.

Is a rounded or pointed yokote better for snap cuts??

I do not know which one would be better. I always preferred the look of the rounded one, and I always had it in my mind as the profile that is more difficult to create. So to me, it is a mark of higher quality craftsmanship. But part of that could just be my Japan vs Taiwan bias. I like seeing Made in Japan much more on Cold Steel classic tantos, and even more so considering it is Hattori. I really should re-read my original post, but I may or may not have mentioned that a lot of the Japanese-made VG-1 san mai tantos that I have seen had more pointed than rounded yokotes. As far as the Japanese blades go, in my experience, the rounded yokote is more indicative of a non VG-1 core blade, despite the feature having nothing to do with the type of steel used. I have not seen enough of the taiwan ones to see possible rounded versions

I have one of the new Master Tantos inbound. I have the 3V one currently. But I do prefer the hollow grind.

One change Cold Steel made, that is a overall improvement in design, over the Japanese ones, is the shorter ricasso/longer cutting edge.

This is just my opinion, but I consider the redesigned Master Tanto to be aesthetically one of the most attractive fixed blade knives of all time-I know it will especially be so in San Mai.

FYI, it’s still in stock for $129.99 at Blade HQ.

You are absolutely right. I didn't even notice the ricasso difference until just recently
