Thinking about selling off two or so khukuris to get myself a muzzleloader. Only shot one a few times and never my own so I'm not too familiar with them. Any advice for a person new to 'em? Gonna be watching videos steady on them to learn what I can but I figure the best information comes from trusted associates.

I think bookie handcrafts them with cutie curls in the corn patch; I love them too but have none in my collection, checked on prices for a new custom and it came out to about 4 grand all up front :o, but I am sure you can buy one for a reasonable price because of the war re-enactment scene; enough demand for old weapons and modern muzzle loaders that you should be able to find whatever you want from antiques to modern over built ones.

keep us informed!

Hunting/range mostly, don't want one of them in-line ones that's damn near breach loading. Figure selling a M-43 and Gopte will get me an O-K spanish-made muzzle loader depending on what people have.

If in-line doesn't turn your crank and authentic is out of reach financially then look around for older (20-30 years?) Traditions and similar jobs. These work perfectly well and look great but as used items have become 'giveaways' nowadays. There are folks that insist on the latest technology, folks that want the real thing (ie functional antiques) and then budget conscious folks that merely wish to abide by hunting regulations (muzzleloaders only) and very much appreciate if the thing shoots straight and is reliable. Thanks to being able to buy used stuff from the 80s and 90s there doesn't seem to be much 'middle ground' in this racket anymore.

Nope! I've seen older traditions and jukar's selling for 100-250 dollars depending on condition and gear that comes with it, and I'm not afraid of refinishing a stock.

These may be just a bit more than you want to spend. Thompson center renegade, I have the .50cal one with double set trigger. Not sure how long the guy had it before me.

I've indeed drooled over those Renegade. I think I've seen those on armslist with powder and shot for 220, probably not going to find a deal like that. First step is to sell those Khukuri! As I said, probably an m-43 and gopte are gonna go to a new home so I can spend time missing and sucking in smoke. The dual trigger's is for sure something I want.

I have the Renegade in 54 cal with the double set trigger. Shoots real good.

Hanging out with Bookie lately makes me want to take it out again, been far far too long.

The ones I saw on Gunbroker were going between 100 and 200 bucks, seems damn good to me! Might be able to skate with selling/trading the m43 seeings as the retail on them is $215 i believe. Figure I could get one of them Thompson Centers with some patches shot and powder for the one khuk.

Just remember, you get what you pay for when dealing with off-shore muzzle loading firearms. They are NOT created equally. Please plan accordingly.

All the best in finding the right rifle. I learned from an Old smith to build BP weapons from scratch, hand rifle the barrels, the works.
An Old rifle with a good bore is a pleasure to shoot and they will drop game out to yardages you would not believe.

Since the Boston bombers used Black Powder it is becoming hard to get out here on the west coast, hope you can get a supply near you.

Will do Doc! For sure not leaping at the first thing offered to me, had about four for offshore inline's which I stated I WASNT looking for. Nothing besides those!

Powder seems to not be uncommon here on the east coast so I probably won't have that bad of a time.

They are a ton of fun, if you don't mind getting dirty lol. I have a Ruger Old Army cap and ball gun that gets my hands filthy every time I shoot it. You have to put grease in the ends of the cylinders after loading to avoid chain fire. Its a pain but I love that damn single action wonder.

Rifles are a bit different, much less messy but they still get you dirty. I love the big plume of smoke that comes once you touch a ball off. I would recommend a Hawkins rifle kit because you will develop a love for the gun if you build it yourself. There is minor fit and finish needed with the kits and the experience makes the time worth it. You can finish the stock any color you want. You can also rest assured you know the ins and outs of the gun because you are the one who built it.

See, I'm of two conflicting minds. I've got five HI knives, more than I need and 0 muzzle loaders (of which I want). The issue being noone here knows much about Himalayan Imports (or many good knives for that matter) so they see anything over 15 dollars and shriek.

I'll get one sooner or later! Good thing I'm a patient man.

A friend on another forum just recently got a Lyman Deer Stalker. It's 50 caliber and doesn't have the double set trigger but it's a nice looking rifle. I think it was around 400 bucks so much more than your talking and no stuff to go with it.

But a good option.

I've looked at kit guns lately myself wanting to make my own but the price on the decent ones are so high a person might as well buy a finished one and modify to suit if needed.

I priced one at a place I'm probably not allowed to name but kind of a pick the stuff you want from start to finish and it ended up being between 1500 and 2000 bucks. Worth every penny if a guy had that many pennies which I don't.
Course that was a dream smoke pole, fancy wood, nothing but the best but it would of worked till I talk Bookie out of Durty Nellie anyhow.

Like I said, I be a patient man! It's for sure something I want to do but I'm not going to buy the first piece to come up. I'd love to do a kit, but as you said, the prices on the kits are dang near as much as the assembled product. Someone offered their thompson center renegade in 54 cal (fine looking rifle) for 160 OBO but the cash money is the issue atm. That's all dedicated to other stuffs. He didn't want the m43 so I was on my way! Doubt I'll see another offer like that any time soon but you never know.

I sure wouldn't part with my Renegade for that plus your M43.

Like you say though, for some folks it's kind of a flash in the pan (cool pun?) and they play a time or two and then lose interest. Find one of them with lots of money that went first cabin and now don't want it no more and it'll be a winner.

Cash money always seems to be my issue too, gosh durned if I can figure it out too. I work, I take money home and then I never see it again. Where does it go. Maybe my wife gots some splainin to do?

All my money goes to a bitter adversary of mine called Bill. Bill sure is a greedy man. I wish I had the 160 cash to give him for that because that's a STEAL of a deal. On top of blackpowder firearms being cool and all they get to hunt two weeks later than us rifle-hunting folk.

Just got offered 100 cash and a 1937 Mosin Nagant. Figure between selling the Nugget and the 100 cash I can buy myself a decent smokepole and some kit for it.
