I prefer sitting at the wheels when I'm grinding backs and hafts, you can rest your elbows on your knees giving you more control. I don't mean on a stool either, feet on the ground is best. I sit at the flat horizontal platen too but that's just because it's attached to a Burr King with one of the aforementioned wheels that I grind backs on. That's how we did it at the knife factory so I got used to doing it that way. I think Gil Hibben is a sitter too.
