anyone have a rambo knife as a kid??

Just like many others here, I was no longer a boy when Rambo appeared. But I wanted such a survival knife so I finally got one. Stuff of this kind was almost impossible to find here in Romania those years (now it's full of cheap Chinese knives), and I managed to get myself a POS (the one with the ball compass, which of course broke in a couple of weeks); it ended in a flower pot, the blade is really rustfree so it makes great for digging in the ground.
Later I got a full size version, not a Jimmy Lile, but a decent replica (black 440C blade), which rode with me in the woods and on the mountains for quite a long time. Still have it.

I got hooked on the hollow handle idea during the Rambo years.Had lot's of cheap junk as a young teen back then.As a middle age man I am still hooked. But I don't think anyone would call my hollow handled knives cheap junk any more.I might have to slap them with one of my Chris Reeve Knives.

Yeah My cousin , brother and I all three had one. Black with the big compass. We were like 8 or 9 years old. 28 years old now. My cousin still has his, keeps it hung up in view for memories. Everytime I see it it makes me realy wish I had kept mine . No worries though, it's all going to burn in the end anyways.

I was too old when Rambo came out also but I have made sure my nephews have each had a nice cheap tacky Rambo style knife. With compass in Handle. :)

Whipfinish; I searched the internet, and WSAR seems to stand for: Wilderness search and rescue. :)

P.S. Does anyone know what make and model Rambo's knive actually was?

Yep, I had a couple because they kept breaking! The ultra cheapie's with the big bubbly copmass on the pommel. When I was older, and had my first real job, I saved up and bought a real Lile Sly 2 though. Never used it, and ended up selling it after a while, but that was a real cool knife :)

Thanks to BladeForums.com, and moreover the internet, I will never have to admit to having owned a Jimmy Lile Rambo knife replica  ;)

Instead, I can buy a Camp Tramp or BK7! :D

I got the Rambo III knife from SMKW when I was a teen. To this day I still think it's a nice looking piece. I'm not sure how great the steel is. I believe it was a Gil Hibben design. The funny thing is one of those junky fantasy Gil Hibben daggers I bought when I was a kid, the Silver Shadow (chain wrapped handle) is now going up in value as it was the first in the series.

Rambo I and II were made by Jimmy Lile, Rambo III by James A. Keating.

I remember going into the store and being so excited to be able to buy my first fixed blade. It was actually a little better quality than others that I saw after (mine was the $12 version, not like the cheaper $10 ones:rolleyes: ). I vaguely remember seeing the blade in a pile of junk when my parents were moving out of our house, but I don't know what happened to it. It did last through most of my younger years (9-15) and was a lot of fun. The stone included in the suedo-leather sheath really destroyed the blade, though.
