Anyone have an opinion on this Compound?

Strig, Yes, get a Belgium yellow coticule stone as it has a higher percentage sapphire content. Or the Spyderco ultra fine ceramic stone. This one not being as pricey as the Belgium and cuts just as good and more available in larger sizes. Enjoy you straight shaving journey. DM

Doesn't the coticule create a slurry though? I was under the impression that that was key.

Gotta a reply from Paul at Deepwoods Ventures

"Anthony-

The white (Pale) Is Aluminum Oxide and approx. 2 micron. This is kind of course but it is effective. You are right, the Dark is Silicon Carbide about the same size. The green that most people use is .05 to 1 micron which is as you know is really fine.

The only thing I can really say about the binding agent is that it is neither Bees wax or petroleum jelly. I wanted to use a binding agent that wouldn’t leave a stain on freshly carved wood if the user didn’t take care and wipe the blade. It is also stiff enough to apply to a slow buffing wheel."

:)

Working up the right slurry on a coticule can be tricky. I use mine just wet, (a few drops)not fussing much about the correct slurry and this gives me what I want. It cuts slow but not as slow as an Arkansas and the grains are shaped different and sapphires are very hard. The slurry develops from the clay/ silt in the stone which is very fine. DM
