Just wondering if anyone is planning any sort of get-aways now that the seasons are changing. My biggest plans(at the moment) will be to get down to the Whites Mountains for some climbing along the Presidentials. Would still like to get out for another overnighter in my kayak along the New Brunswick/Maine border as well.
What about you guys?

Going down south to a resort doesn't count, either:D

Well, for the next three weeks I will be deep in schoolwork with projects, tests, etc. Have two tests this week, in fact. Might, just maybe, get out for some camping somewhere this weekend.

Im planning a canoe trip for next summer. Down a stretch of river rarely used here in Northeast Missouri. It will only be ten miles, but I plan on fishing a lot, so it will take two days. Nothing in the immidiate future except for short hikes and some spelunking.

Some friends recently bought a boat, and tomorrow they'll be leaving Florida on a 4 month sailing expedition. The plan is to eventually make it down to Venezuela and then sail back to Florida. Along the way they'll hit tons of islands. I can't quit working for 6 months like they all have, but I'll be with them for about 3 weeks in the Puerto Rico vicinity. I'm really looking forward to some fishing, snorkeling, and island hopping. 4 weeks to go!

Most awesome, eomeo! But be careful, eh?

Yeah we'll be careful for sure. Hurricane season is done, so our big worry is meeting unfriendlies in the water. I think it will be fine though. :D

January over MLK weekend will be a Winter Camping/Backingpacking trip in the Adirondacks with some folks here

February will be the week-long Winter Survival Course I'm teaching up at the WLC.

June will be the 92 mile Allagash Trip I've been plotting for a while and just have to do.

These are a few that come to mind. Kind of hard for me to get away now and for the next couple months as I coach Indoor Track and Field at my high school. I'll squeeze in the occasional overnighter here and there.

This state is always an adventure. At least the snakes have already gone to ground. Walks in Fountainebleau are a lot less exciting, though.

At the end of the month i have between 7-10 days to do what i want. Thinking about going to the desert and camp out and do lots of hiking. Maybe drive around the grandcanyon and stop at places on the way.. Not sure as of yet.

In just under three weeks time, I'll be starting five weeks of summer holidays.

Should be able to squeeze in some fishing, swimming at the beach, visiting relatives, day walks with the kids etc.

Don't know how I'm going to cope with it all :D

Kind regards
Mick

Just got back from 5 days in the Sierras and am going goose hunting on Thursday. Saturday I'm off to the woods with my wife and daughter to hunt down a christmas tree. I'm trying to decide which axes/saws to bring. These are the good things in life!

My wife and I are discussing our Christmass trip. The current plan is we leave my work at 1500hrs on the 21th of Dec. and arrive in Cairns just over 1000miles away by 1800hrs the next day. Oh did I mention we have a three year old.
Then spend ten days in my brother-in-laws house without carrying my wild fantasies with his wife nearly all of the fantasies end with me standing over a shallow grave.
The upside is if I walk across the six foot patio and jump the fence I land in rainforest. I will get you blokes some pics.
The highlight will be, I spoke to a mate last night who is also heading to a family Christmass about two hours back down the road with a open invite to go dogging ( chasing feral pigs with dogs and knives)
My prefered knife is the Swedish Bayonet on the far right.

If it all works out I make sure I'll get some pics.
I won't put my sister in-law in a shallow grave but I'm allowed to dream aren't I?.

i am starting to plan for a week long excursion in the bush, but it will have to wait for summer, because -50 C is not fun...

My plan is to go in with three days worth of food, and walk out full hahaha
i have a lot of studying to do on wild foods.

Due to ongoing health issues, my activities are extremely limited. I am working on my archery daily though, and we are getting our camp trips planned for 09. My wife and I are hard on the heels of finding a plant ID course as well. If I don't need surgery within the next couple months, I will work slowly into shelter building before the end of Winter. I have some spots on my property that I want to do an overnighter in the rain.

Me and Texas Tony are working on trip with his boy and my nephew sometime next year early.

not sure where we are going to go yet....most likely southern oklahoma as it is between us both.

maybe down in the hill country like the Arbuckle's or the Wichita's

Sadly the only adventure I have coming up is a weekend in the field with three dozen marine recruits. It's their first time in the field and it'll be interesting to see some of the city boys outside of their comfort zone. It's getting down around -7ºC or so here but it is staying dry(ish). I'll be stunned if 1 or 2 don't try and quit.

(Apologies if you know what this is but i'll explain for those that don't.)
We have a thing called 'Wet and Dry' basically if you get wet you don't get into your bag like that. You get into your spare clothes (which are dry) and then get into your bag. The kicker is when you get out of your bag at any time you have to get back into your wet stuff. Personally I found it sickening getting into ice cold wet clothes first thing in the morning knowing I had a nice warm and dry set in my pack. I've since grown accustomed to it but that first time is seared into my memory.

Anyway i'll maybe take some pics and do a little right up on how it goes.

Wet and Dry sounds awful. I'd have a hard time getting out of my warm sleeping bag and into some semi-frozen clothes without a drill sargeant barking orders at me. Have fun!

Planning a 3 or 4 day wander around Mt Kosciuszko, probably in late Feb. Will only cover about 50km but will get to stand on the 3 highest peaks in Australia and visit the highest lake etc. Really looking forward to it as it'll be my first walk which involves areas above the tree line so a different setting than I'm used to.

Will probably have a car camping weekend in Jan as well but that doesn't require any planning so haven't thought much about it yet.

Then of course there'll be day walks, MTB trips and kayak trips throughout summer.
