Anyone have any trouble with cracks in their blades?

I know this topic has been talked about in the past but I was wondering if anyone has ever had a crack spread on them? Many of my khuks have cracks at the base of the cho. When you chop hard the blade/handle juncture and the cho area take most of the force. Has this ever been a trouble spot for anyone? I also have an AK that has a bunch of cracks on the butt of the tang where the tang comes through the end of the handle. It looks like it starburst maybe when it was heat treated. Could these cracks spread deeper into the tang if they are not all ready there? Also what do you guys think about using a Dremel tool to use to sand/findgrind these small cracks away? If anyone ever has had a blade break on them what caused it and how did it happen? I did read about that Kobra that died...interesting!

Only break I recall offhand was during startup at shop 2, around Dasein, when the kamis got in too much of a hurry and hardened the tangs near the bolster, which should have been dead malleable. It got welded back up and last I heard was still in use.

Chris Rusty is correct.
Uncle Bill sent Cliff Stamp a village model that had several forgeing cracks and from what has been said about the khukuri Uncle Bill felt it too ugly to be sold.
Cliff tested the village model along with several other blades along with a HI 18" AK.
The ugly village khukuri won out over all of the other blades Cliff tested!!

And if there are cracks around where the tang was hammered over the keeper just leave them alone.
They are only surface cracks and won't cause any trouble and probably don't extend any deeper than what you see.
Sometimes there is a forgeing crack around the cho and this is caused from the way the cho is forged in the blade.
And again they won't cause any problems.
But as it has been said before if there's any doubt in your mind take the khukuri out and beat the living crap out of it.
Do some heavy prying and use a good sized piece of hardwood to beat the edge fairly deep into a solid piece of wood and then try to force it out sideways.

Was this khukuri a blem from HI?
Usually Uncle Bill sees these kinds of minor flaws and discounts the khukuri but keeps the full HI Guarantee.

I wouldn't be concerned about the blade.

But if there is still some concern on your part send it back to Uncle Bill and he will replace it with no problems.

Thank's Guy's!! I didn't think the cracks would be a problem. I now live in a neighborhood where the houses are right on top of each other and don't have alot of things to destroy. My old place was a khukuri testing paradise with tons of wood and old tin cans and such. We even had an old Chevy Luv we choped up and shot up, one of the most memerable times I had with my bud's. I have some HI khuks from the mid 90's that I've tested thorouhly and they have no cracks to begin with. I only had a loose but cap or 2. The newer khuks from BirGorkha are built much better and the shapes are more astheticley pleasing.
I just bought a truck so I can back to the hills an can finally put these newer khuks to the test! I'll let you know if I have any trouble with the cracks....I doubt it!!! Please forgive my grammer, It's late and I'm holding my eyes open with tooth picks!
