Anyone have experience with a Barret REC7 5.56?

Good call man! If you have astigmatism like we go with an etched reticle. If not, the MRO is solid for a very competitive price. Or, if you have the cash, I love my 1-4x Elcan Specter DR. Flip of a lever and you go from 1x to 4x. Has etched dot and crosshairs. Can light just the dot or the entire reticle. Vortex is also another good option with a lifetime warranty.

I haven't ever cleaned the gas block or piston on mine and it has over 4000 rounds through it without issue. I don't think that's a problem with this gun....

Sweet rifle man. Get back to us with reviews. I personally choose magnified optics like a scope....no batteries to go bad in the apocalypse. Get some good flip ups for back up irons.

Agreed! That's another reason I like an etched reticle like my Elcan. Can use it with lighting or none

Don't know what that costs but I'm here from one of those AR15 forums to tell you to get a LaRue.

If you want a piston gun look at PWS they have a long stroke system that eliminates many of the short stroke issues.

LaRue is nice, a long wait and around the same price. But their tolerances are so tight, it is very picky with ammo in my experience.

Hopefully the REC 7 will be good for you.
The ELCAN is the Ferrari of optics. If I could afford it, that's what I'd get. I can't. Aimpoint is about the top end of what I can afford, and that being the PRO, or H1 (one of each). PRO is my goto, and H1 is for a lighter build.

With the Aimpoint on a 1:7 twist barrel, I've gotten hits fairly consistently on a torso sized steel target at 400 yds, with an ALG single-stage trigger. The trigger, while smooth, makes it a little harder, due to NOT being a match trigger. But that is with the rifle in hand, elbow rested on a table. I didn't get first round hits, but I was in the park, and could get on within about 3 rds. That is with 48 y.o. eyes. If you can see it, you can hit it. Just have to know your trajectory, and use Kentucky windage.

Thing about the ELCAN is you can go from 400yds to across the room with the flip of the lever. Similar thing to trajectory, though, for CQB; you have to know and remember your offset. At across the room distances, the offset will hose you if you don't remember it. I've seen numerous guys going for a head shot end up hitting in the chin or neck area and going -3 when it should have been a -0, just because they forgot the sight offset. If you ever have to use it in anger, that could cost you much more than points.

So, all that being said, I'd still get the ELCAN, if I could afford it.

Don't have a ton of experience with them. Did go to the range with a buddy who has one and got to play with his for a minute. Functioned fine with no problems but again just a very short use sample. That being said I haven't handled anything made by Barrett that wasn't top shelf.
