Anyone have experience with one of these?

I stumbled across this on the vast and mysterious internet and thought it looked interesting. Pretty impressive, heat wise, even though it's a piezo. Looks tough enough...does anyone have one of these?

No, but I have one of these Microtorch MT-5 and it is solid, there was a bit of a learning curve when I first fired it up but I use it all the time at work now. It's more expensive than the one you linked but that doesn't mean its better.

I used to have one until a friend 'borrowed' it and never returned it. Great lighter only problem I had was sometimes it's difficult to see the flame and that's when you can get a nasty burn very quickly.

Other than that i'd recommend it.

Is the piezo pretty reliable on these? It seems like it could be a decent cheap fire starter in wet environments. If it can melt a penny I don't see any stick not catching fire!

I have owned two of these type of mini-torches.... both have failed to meet my expectations. Too complicated... too many things to go wrong.

I guess it'll be a while before we see any kind of rugged and reliable system for this kind of thing, huh? Aw well... :D

Found this on the site. It seems that the video is a bit misleading.

You beat me to it, Rick. I agree with you 100%. They seem kind of cheap really. The flame is hot but mine had ignition trouble and after a few months quit altogether.
