I ordered a lefty DPX Hest 2.0 and the box is marked LH but the knife came in as a righty? So figuring it was not their fault i called. Its a gift for my buddies wedding this weekend and i called them and they said that they are going to send me a return label and when they receive the knife they will then send me one out, which means my friend will not be getting a wedding gift from me, im driving 6 hours for the wedding and then i will have to ship him the knife and hope it makes it there with no problems, then it will be my problem if its lost. I asked them if they would send me one out and ill send this one out, they said that someone once didn't send the knife back. Well they have my credit card info on file so why would this be a problem. The other result would be for me to make a whole new order online and for them to charge me for another knife to my bank account and hold up my funds of 180.00 dollars and then when they receive the knife back i will have to wait for the refund to be done. I just dont think this is fair on my part am i wrong?

I don't think they are being unreasonable. If I understand you correctly, you want them to send you a second knife before they receive your returned knife. They thus have 2 knives out of their hands, but payment for only one. They may have your credit card info, but unless you actually order a second knife, they can't just use your card without an authorized purchase.

I understand that there was an initial screwup that was not your fault, but I think it's more fair to buy the second knife knowing the purchase of the first will be cancelled in due course and only a single charge eventually be incurred.

its the same for me, they will have payment for 2 knives and i will have nothing and then what if my knife i send back doesn't make it then who eats that?
i told them to ship it out and if they dont get it back to charge me, but its not fair i tie up over almost 400 dollars on a mistake that wasn't mine?

I have never had a problem with Knifeworks and the process of not sending out a new knife until the first one is returned is a standard way of doing business. You will find very few businesses that are willing to be out an item until they receive the old one. I have gotten around this by buying the second item, have them ship it right away, and then refund me for the first upon their receipt. Most companies are willing to do this.

Knifeworks are good folks. What they are doing is normal. It is the way almost everyone would handle it.

To the OP:

Not the same. You will have paid for a knife you received, and you have paid for a knife to be shipped to you, just like anyone making a purchase. Forget the 2nd knife for a second: would you seriously expect a retailer to give you a refund BEFORE you return the merchandise? Or send you merchandise BEFORE you pay for it? Because that's what you're asking them to do.

Order a second one and have them ship it. When they receive the first one they can issue you a credit for the first charge.

I agree with Bimmer1. Pay for the new one now (given that it is a gift on a tight timeframe) and you will be refunded for the return when it gets there. True, it's not your mistake and it sucks a little to be out $360 while this is resolved, but for a buddy's wedding--and with a reputable company like Knifeworks--I would do it.

This is absolutely correct. Most if not all companies do not operate on this principle. They offer goods for money, end of story. Going outside of their business plan puts them and any store at a disadvantage. Also, to initiate a charge, they need approval via web or phone order.

You could have ordered a second knife, shipped overnight and asked for a refund on the original. Mistakes happen, we are all human, the fact that someone is getting married somewhere in some country has no bearing on the matter at hand. Your priority is not their problem or responsibility. Sometimes things work against us it seems, we need to adapt, suck it up, and do what we need to do within the parameters of the situation. As for me, I've never had any issues with them, been a customer for about 9 years.

I took care of it and just ordered a second one, hope this one comes in correct and will deal with it, just a little annoyed that's all ill delete this thread or a mod can close

No worries, we've all had crap happen at the most inappropriate times. It's how we handle things that defines us.
