I got a brand new Spartan Harsey as a Christmas gift to myself. I was admiring it yesterday and noticed some imperfections near the spine of the blade on the swedge area. It looks deeper than grind marks.

Does anyone who has a harsey notice these marks?

Am I being too nit picky? The dealer I got it from accepts exchanges so I was thinking about sending it back for another. If it’s something they all have then I won’t let it bother me.

Thanks !

Your welcome!

If you had bought it on the Exchange and knew that condition was there and saved 80 to 100 bucks then you keep it and use it.
Not when you paid full retail, that’s how I feel about it!

I did some QC at a knife factory and I would not let that pass. It would be a second or I would send it to the polisher and fix it. I'd send it back

Are you going to use it? If so, keep it, you will be putting more scratches than that on it.

Honestly it’d be a safe queen and light carry to show off. Probably wouldn’t actually ever use it. I’ve got a $20 Gerber for that 😅

It’s plenty capable to be a user, but the thing is a work of art with that warthog design. I’d hate to scratch it up.

I agree with this. My only idea is that if you leave it as is AND you decide to sell (something many of us don't plan but end up doing) you will have to disclose it and maybe lower the price. For this reason I would send it back. BTW, fantastic blade.

Personally, I would use it like I stole it from my ex's new boyfriend. You said you probably wouldn't use it, so send it back if it bothers you. Just my humble opinion though.

Beautiful knife otherwise. I know what those cost so If it were mine I would exchange it for another if possible. Just ask them to personally look the new one over too, they won’t mind if you’re cool about it.

If I paid $400+ for a knife, and it had those "grooves" in the blade, I would definitely wonder about them. I would wonder why they are on a $400+ knife.

Whether or not I would return the knife would be a different issue. I'd ask myself questions like "Is it going to be a user?", "Am I happy with the rest of the knife?", "Are those flaws going to bug me?", "Do I want to go through the hassle of returning the knife, waiting for a replacement, and hoping the replacement is perfect?".

Being purely cosmetic, if it were going to be my user, I'd probably keep it. If it were a defect in function, or one that would affect function, then I would definitely send it back, no questions asked.

Yeah, if your anal about the flaws, send it back.
My plain has some imperfections like yours, but not as many. IMO, the grind lines weren’t polished out. I betcha if you sent it to Spartan, they would put extra love into it and correct your issue.. Don’t know how many are on the shelf for a swap from the dealer.

You are the final QC if it bothers you send it back!
I would.

Same. I've sent mine back to Spartan twice, for 2 very different things, and while it stinks sending in such an expensive knife, they have been very quick on the turnaround, solved the issue that needed solved satisfactorily, and offered to cover my shipping (I asked for free swag and ended up with hats and shirts instead).

The 1st was a new thing, seems like it came with a bad washer. 2nd was the lockbar needed to be adjusted after using it pretty heavily for 6+ months as part of moving our business out of the current facility. I don't disrespect the knifr but I didn't baby it either, I bought it knowing it was intended to be an expensive workhorse.

That’s a little deeper than any mark you would put on it in light use. Thats a defect from the manufacturer. Send it back. Especially since it is bothering you.

Quite simply….if you were in a store and were interested in that model of knife, would you have purchased that particular example? If not, there’s your answer.

I never noticed little scuffs because I never intended to keep 'em pretty. Form & function were my only priorities and as all 3 get carried and used, I couldn't even go back and check because any small scuffs now could very well have resulted in my pocket... sry.

Apology accepted

I’d send it back and get a new one. But the Spartan blades are excellent users. The SHF feels like an extension of the hand. You would most certainly enjoy using it, it’s a lifetime and heirloom quality knife. Use it in good faith 👍
