anyone have this problem with the griptilian

I've had my AXIS locks "jam" up if I flick them too hard. I never had a problem unlocking them, but the AXIS bar would stick more than normal. I just learned not to flick them so hard, and there really is no need to. I just flick it enough to open it quickly and ensure positive lock up and I don't have any sticking issues with the lock.

I also use Militec-1 as my primary lube on the pivot, lock, etc. I can't explan why, but I noticed the CLICK sound got quieter after using Militec-1, or maybe I'm just crazy. :) My BM710 is over 8 years old now I think, still going strong as my primary EDC.

It's so hard to communicate the symptoms over the net.... How much pressure is a little pressure? Are we talking enough pressure to squash a fly or a mouse or a badger?

Or you can express it in pounds -- try pressing on a scale with the same pressure you're using and see how many pounds it reads.
This is a good idea. The pressure could be measured directly by putting the butt of the knife on a postal scale and then pressing the lock bar as you read the scale.

In any case, it seems normal to me if flicked, but abnormal if it occurs just from cutting with the knife. It makes me wonder if there is a problem with the stop pin. It could be broken and flexing too much. The safest course of action is to have it checked out at Benchmade. You don't want your stop pin failing unexpectedly.

And for the record, I have flicked mine, but I do not flick it regularly or consider that to be a good way to use the tool.

by the way does anyone know if the factory tip on the grip is supposed to be a sharp point or slightly rolled down at the tip? The only two i've seen show this symptom

Well, aren´t there different blade shapes? Aren ´t there clip point blades, sheepfoot blades, flat ground and hollow ground?

Which one you are talking about and what is rolled? Is the factory edge rolled? Give it a fresh resharpening.

Is it at the spine?

My 550 features a nice tip. Not a needle tip but it the edge bevels were gound pretty well.

I have two grips and they have sharp point. 154CM doesn't feel very strong to me, sharpenes to easily, maybe they loose the tip this way.
I had no problem with the griptilian, used it even in water and it's still very smooth.
I use bluelube oil from Benchmade.

The tip on mine is nice and pointy. You could probably see some rounding under high magnification. It pricks well and is probably at least as pointy as any knife I have ever used. But you have to be careful when sharpening not to round the point. Very easy to do especially on a Sharpmaker or crock stick.

Make a cut with it by pushing down on it like you were going to use it for pushing it through a cucumber and release the lock while pushing down.

STR

It should make it a little easier to release the lock if you do as STR described. You should probably do this on a hard but edge-friendly surface like wood.
