Anyone heard of 420CPM tool steel??

I recently came across this tool steel and was wondering if anyone has worked with it and what carbon steel it most closely resembles?

CPM 420V is the older name of S90V made by www.crucibleservice.com It's a stainless tool steel.

So I suppose its not an ideal steel for a bowie, 8 in or longer?

it's a stainless and usually worked via stock removal method. not sure anyone would forge a bowie from CPM420V steel, if they sell them in round bars.

go for a high carbon steel for your bowie.

or try Wootz - there is a German guy who's making wootz at a fairly good price, apart from Ivan or Al.
