not sure if that's spelled right or not... that's how it's pronounced... i found out at work today that one of the older guys in the shop has been making his own knives since the mid 70's... he had bought a bunch of this stuff back then... he said it makes for an awesome knife blade... was wondering if anyone had heard of it??? he's going to give me some but if it's really a good steel then i'll hold off using it untill i get a couple other ones under my belt...

okay... talked to him again today... it's creusabro 8000... it's a french steel... it's got some interesting properties... he said that it makes a great blade, but can't be annealed or heat treated again... so if i decide to mess with it then it'll be just stock removal and nothing else...

looks like another case of some steel he got from work and started using... i might mess with it a bit, just because if i run into a problem i can ask him about it... but i'm still going to be ordering some 1084 after christmas...

The first thing that pops out is that the carbon is really low. Also, not high enough Cr to be stainless.

when i finally got the chemical breakdown that was the first thing i noticed too...

Fairly soft with a work hardened HRc @ 52. Might be good for a machete or ax.

creusabro..... all i can think of when i read that is crucible in the fake korean accent used for kim jong il in Team America World Police. I mean nothing racist at all by this it just popped into my head as i read it.

since i do consider him a friend, and i'm just itching to make a knife, i'm going to go ahead and make a small drop point... just to see how it turns out... lol... i figure i'll test the hardness at work after i'm done to see how hard it got from filing and sanding it... it'll be an interesting experiment... i'll post up a thread sometime later...
