anyone here every broken an upper rib?

i think you'd have to take a nasty shock to break your ribs, and you'd KNOW it. plus the grating of bone on bone is something you are not likely to ignore.

possibly, you popped or relocated a floating rib... i've done this, and then you get a pinch of soft tissue, and it hurts to move. also done this. so has a friend that i "remotely diagnosed"...

the cure? well, nothing spectacular. take a slow maximum deep breath. "hold" your breath, and sharply "push" hard, slow sometimes slowly does it too, but PUSH. like you are blowing a balloon, but do not exhale. push push push. for me anyway, it pops it back, instant relief.

though, if you broke a ripe, or did something else... see a doctor :)

Just wanted to let yall know that I'm feeling better :)

Still cant put presure on the rib itself without it hurting, but it doesnt hurt to move or breathe or cough or sneeze anymore. I went climbing for 40 minutes 2 nights ago, and I didn't feel anything in the rib area :)

It feels pretty gnarly under the hand, pretty much like you'd expect a broken bone to feel (comes from the sternum, big bump, then about 1/4" inward the rib begins again), but It doesn't feel bad on a day to day basis anymore.

LVC, still gotta recommend goingto a doc, don't want any of those pains to be chronic, do ya? No money, no insurance? Just go to the ER, set up a payment plan. Man, are they suprised when you actually pay them!

I've got to much taxes coming to me this year :(

I dont know what the payments are going to be like on it, but I'm pretty sure that I'm going to have to get a 30 year loan to cover it. I dont make enough for knowledgable health at the moment :(

If your ribs broken or cracked , dont laugh, sneeze or cough for at least a month.

if you do you will be under no illusian about is it or isnt it.;)

I've broken my ribs 3 times, and the cartilage in my sternum once. None of the times was a serious medical issue, but all four times was an incredible "pain issue". I would agree that seeing a chiropractor isn't a bad idea. Most of them aren't but 60 bucks a visit, and they can xray you to boot. If it is bad, then follow up with the doc. If it isn't puncturing a lung, tho, there isn't much they can do. NISD, and perhaps some vicodine. One time I felt better in a week, the other times it took close to a month. Hope you feel better soon. Please take care of yourself, tho, so it doesn't plague you long term.
