Hello everyone!

I am interested in the knife making and sword making videos by Wally Hayes. I have ran a few searches already. Does anyone here have these videos, and could comment on what one learns from them? Also, where is a good place to get them? Anyone have copies they would sell?

Thanks!

Good videos.Easy to understand (once you get past the accent).Well shot and explained. The steel he uses is 1080 tool steel. It sounds like he says 1082 steel.

Wally stock removes one of his "modern katana". Clay-coating is followed by a real neat heat treat sequence. After finish grinding, he demonstrates handle-wrapping Japanese style, and also how to make a Turkshead knot at the tsuba. At the end you get a dose of Wally as Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Very enjoyable video. I didn't find his accent hard to follow at all, but accents ring much different to different people.

Fitzo,I was kidding about the accent.A bunch of people misunderstood the 1082vs1080 tool thing.Isn't Wally from Canada?

Ah, I'm dense.... :o

Yeah, he's from one of the western provinces I think.

Soohrry, but aboooot the steel...you are both wrong, eh! It's 1050!

But you both tried, so I'll give ya's an F+

:)

I also give two thumbs up for the videos. I was a bit dissapointed that as a MS, he didn't forge the sword, but part of his theme is knifemaking on a budget.... and stock removing the blade is much more do-able for a beginner.

I didn't mention the steel, Birthday Boy, so :jerkit:

Learn to read, or you'll join us on the little bus. :D

I happen to have the knifemaking on a budget videos from him and I think they are both very good. He makes it look way too easy. I'll have to watch them several times to figure out what I'm doin' but that is half the fun, no?

Thanks EH!!

If I get any of the Hayes videos, I'll be happy to translate the Canadian the rest of the board members here :)
