Hi has anyone here ever bought Dvd's, books, etc. from Amazon.com UK?

If so, can you give me any info on how, such as:
1. first off, can I do it?
2. by using my visa, does it automatically adjust for the currency conversion?
3. is there an import duty that I will have to pay?

I realise that a dvd from UK will be region coded R2, but my player can overcome this.

is there anything else that can be added, that I need to consider?

regards,
bill o.

...thanks for any and all responses!

I bought a book from them. International transactions by visa are converted by visa at their own rates. They don't give you very favourable rates.
I imported to Canada so I paid taxes. Your duties and tariffs are different than Canada. It also took a while to arrive, but if yours is in stock, it may not be too bad.

I have done that very often, also from .fr, .ca, and .co.uk. There are no tariffs in the US for books. Your credit card should give you the market rate at the time of purchase, with no commissions, so you basically get the best deal available, AFAIK. Of course, right now the USD is in the toilets, especially compared to the British Pound, and no one can help you with that.

Thank-you Joss.

I do notice that Amazon.UK takes my same log-in info that I use for Amazon here in the States. I'm gonna go ahead and order the video I want. :)

...thanks for the info. BF people are the best. :)

I bought from amazon.de (Germany) once, and everything went great. I didn't pay attention to the currency conversion, but at a glance everything seemed good with it. The service and turnaround were excellent; it was almost as if I ordered a book from amazon.com in the US, only in German.

Thanks commodorewheeler, that was helpful as well.

Joss, yeah I realise it will be coded for R2 and PAL. I know my player will play any region, and I think (hope) it will compensate for PAL as well. Not real sure how good the playback picture will be though. But, I want this movie really bad and if it will play at all, I'll be happy. And I'm hopeful that someday it will get a U.S. Dvd release and I'll replace it then.

...sorry this post will bump back to top, but I appreciate the responses I got, and just have to say so.
