Anyone interested in this? If you like the Sifu, CLICK HERE!

I definitely plan on buying a modified D2 Sifu, then perhaps I will retire #59. I had to do a small amount of sanding to knock off points left on the First Edition model finger grooves. I assume this has been taken care of in the production model, or if not I can do it again. I also like my green G-10 handle. [I'll have to go hold up my Blue G-10 Bladeforum Native & see what my imagination thinks of that color in a bigger handle, not that anyone has mention color as an option. I have not seen the red ones.]

Thus, the question becomes would I buy one without finger grooves (ignoring the issue of color for now). It might be comfortable, but I believe I would want finger grooves.

The finger grooves add functionality. This is a large knife with a handle that basically gets smaller towards the back. The grooves allow one to hold just the rear half or so of the knife without fear of loosing it. I like to be able to hold this way for some modest chopping, e.g. cleaning the branches off a sapling for a hiking stick, etc., or chopping vegatation.

Although I do not plan on using this knife for defensive purposes (my lawyer made me say that!) I believe they probably add to that function, e.g. thinking of the story of the taxi driver rescuing a youth from a pit bull with only a small SAK (Swiss Army knife) that I recall reading about here on BladeForums (???). In any event they also usefully serve a more mundane purpose. I have often had a reason to stab a cardboard box, e.g., to cut out a handle. They may not be absolutely necessary for that purpose, but I believe they help.

Have I convinced anyone??

Has anyone actually done a substantial amount of chopping or some other hard chores with their Sifu? How did it hold up?

Mikie and Crazy Bob,
I'll be having to have one of those.....

Do we have to keep the G10 handle slabs. I was hoping to see a Sifu with a full metal handle.

I had no hankerin for the Sifu till I had one in hand. Would have never thought such a full sized blade would wear/carry so well. Already my favorite peanut butter knife, reaches clear to the bottom of the jar without muckin up the handle.

Now have a real wanting for one with stonewash blade.......yeah make'em ...they will sell. Knowing how these things go someone will take your 'new' handle and cut a bunch of finger groves in it.

Yea and I'll take a green stonewash one too if anyone has one collecting dust.

I kind of like the metal handle idea, what a about a hard coat aluminum handle maybe w/ kraton insert??

Ok now we know they will have a home it shall happen. Mike and I will finalize the design and all the little goodies soon. As to the D-2 the next run of the Sifu and the Blade Forums Sifu will be D-2. We have some Cubs in D-2 then the Carnivore then who knows. Because this is brought in from Europe the supply in the sizes we use is spotty so we will be also making some knives in ATS-34 to use up what he have left and 154CM to fill the gaps. Mike will keep all you informed to the progress in the BF Sifu hummmm the name Big F****** Sifu ok just a thought.

Donald: “Has anyone actually done a substantial amount of chopping or some other hard chores with their Sifu? How did it hold up?”

My Vaquero Grande has a handle that’s almost identical to the booshank Sifu. Chopping and slashing is what I mostly do with it. No problem, the downturn at the end of the handle keeps it from slipping, and I generally don’t use a real hard grip, either.

Some other possible grip alterations:

The picture Mike posted with the inward-curving section of grip is fairly similar to the picture above on the right. But I haven't seen anybody ponder the layout on the left...

D2 and sans extra finger grooves? A plus in my opinion. I ' d buy a few if: a left handed version would be available. And a slightly flared and rounded pommel instead of the strait finger rest area. For a blade this size and weight, the fingers need something to anchor to when executing hard slashes. Wouldn' t you agree?

MIKE DA@@@@

I have one of each of the black and green hand-ground, one of the BFC black-t, one of the Red/Black BF's, and a CF one just for fun.

You keep this up and I'll be broker, eerrr brokest, errr, won't have two pennies to rub together.

NOW yer talkin' Mike! I have always liked the SIFU blade design, but worried about the grooves. After trying one out at a show recently, I knew I'd never get a SIFU unless the grip were redone. And in D-2!!! YESSSS!

Interested...have one of the previous model, but not a big fan of the finger grooves. Looks like an improvement, especially for those of us with longers fingers. Kevin

I already placed my order for mine. I would like one in D2 or any other similar steel, and the Black T coated plain edge blade.

I don't care too much what kind of handle material it has, as I am sure anything will work for what I intend to use it for.

I hope it comes with a pocket clip or I may reconsider.

As far as design, I like the design exactly like the new CAD shows it (with the forward curved handle) in Mike's post below (and in the new thread). Good work guys.

I told Bob Taylor a long time ago that if he made it, I would buy it. So...

My order is in, let me know when it is ready.
