Anyone Keep Their Sebenzas in a Safe?

I have only one, a large regular since '02. I EDC it almost every day. If I kept it in a safe, I would not enjoy it very much, personally. When I use (or have used) a knife enough, I feel I develop a bond with it. Ones that I haven't used for fear of ruining them, (such as a few traditional knives I own with beautiful bone handles and finishes) I haven't felt a close bond to; something I've started to rectify by bringing some out and starting to use as well.

I'm really not worried about scratching up the finish on my Seb anyway; it's a plain working model. Sure I paid $345 for it, but cars cost waaaaaay more and you still gotta drive to work and wherever else every day. If you carry and use the Seb for many years, you've more than gotten your $$'s worth.

I rotate my Sebbie into my pockets two or three times a week. I use her, just nothing to extreme... but I see no reason to have a knife, if you wont use it.

The Sebbie I carry and use is 3 or 4 years old. How much I paid for it doesn't even matter at this point. That money is long gone. I do however have several stashed away in a safe for backup purposes. I have 3 BG-42 models and 3 S30V, my humble CRK collection. So the answer is yes and no to your question :D

My Seb, Schatt & Morgans, SOG Flash II (my beater) and all the rest in my EDC rotation stay in the safe till I need one. Just a good place to keep them safe from theft, fire, and any other issues...

I EDC both my large and small Classics. This is the third set of Lg/Sm Sebenzas. The first two pairs I sold because I was not using them and needed the jack for otehr toys. With these last two I vowed to really use them. The handles are scratched and they have been sharpended many times. Never once have I been let down by their cutting abilities. Plus, it is just plain fun to carry and play with such a great knife!!

We're talking $400.00 knives not ones worth $10K. These are not investment quality knives, there are tons of them out there and they will never become rare and valuable so use them.

They are great users and that's why they build them.

agree with jvan-they're expensive for a knife-but in the grand scheme of life-where cars, houses, medical etc. they're not THAT expensive. I carry my small classic as an edc everyday. what bothers me most regarding any of my better knives is the key scratches from front pocket carry....I love that CRK has a custom pouch so wear and tear is from use rather than carry......

Some of us are careful even with our $20 knives. :)

Not all Sebenzas are $400. CRK sells a number of fancy Sebenas with inlayed handles and/or damascus blades that run well over $400. I frequently carry either a large or small damascus Sebenza. Would I be careful about what I cut with them? Yes, but not to the point that I don't use them.

The only Sebenza I almost never use is one with a zebra damascus blade. It's not my most expensive Sebenza but the finish on the blade is outstanding and I don't care to see it get scratched. But, I do enjoy fondling it. :D

I EDC a 1999 large wood inlay and I have since 1999. It still looks great and functions like new. As nice as they are, I can't understand why anyone would buy one for anything other than EDC.

For me, the funny thing is that the Sebenza still receives so much attention on this board. I've been an occasional viewer of this board for close to a decade and the merits of the Sebenza were an equally hot topic years ago. The Sebenza isn't magic, just an extremely well made tool. The real joy comes from the daily use of this fine tool.
