I know there are some very knowledgeable folks on here. I was just wondering what anyone could tell me on the date range on this old beat up one .

1981, and I can tell you that because, in '81 Buck removed a hand guard spacer, leaving only 3, one in the hand guard and two in the ponnel. The picture is a bit dark, but I think I can see two spacers in the pommel. That being the cast, your knife was made in 1981.

Thanks. Once I get it I'll try to take better pictures of it. Key word "try".

The sheath with the swiveling belt loop is consistent with the 81 timeframe as Matt suggests.

Thanks. I figure I would take a chance on it for $35 including shipping. It will be my first 119.

For some reason that year model 119 was ground with a different shape. It has more belly on the blade. Don't know why Buck did it in that shape but it's my favorite and I carry it often. It has the thick edge
so, it's before they began giving them a full hollow grind. One can distinguish it readily from the others. DM

Yes my finger slipped and hit the "e" instead of "w" and I didn't realize it until after I posted. Not sure how to go back and fix it or if I even can.

David you just made my day. I wasn't aware it was before Buck started doing the full hollow grind. I'm really excited to get my hands on it now.

Yes, the W key is right next to it so I surmised what happened. I'm glad you obtained more knowledge on your 119 and like that style. I would have rather had the full hollow ground style but that's just me. A thick edge can at times come in handy. DM

There are plenty of hollow grind ones so I can compare them later.:D

That one doesn't look in too bad of shape. It should clean up very well.

Please post some pictures of it if you do clean it up after you receive it. :)

you can hit "Edit Post" in the lower right and fix any of your mistakes, then hit save, when your done...

David, my thoughts as well. That sheath is also my favorite from Buck. The belt loop independently swivels from the sheath. Nice option for when you sit or while you work through thick brush, and no plastic insert for blade to "clack" against.

Good to see you Scott. I agree, the sheath with the plastic sleeve is very safe but noisy. So, I keep an old sock handy for mine. This or a leather spacer will quite it down. It looks like Kyhunt's sheath has already been damaged from a miss insert. DM

I, too, have a 119 identical to kyhunt's with one notable difference: Mine was purchased at Ft. Irwin in March 1977 while on active duty. I welcome your comments. Thank you.

With knife in hand and same orientation as your photograph, the stamp on the right, blade up, reads-
BUCK
119
U.S.A.
Spacers: Guard - aluminum, fiber, aluminum; phenolic handle.
Pommel - fiber, aluminum, fiber.
If I can do a photo then pigs can fly. Thanks.
