anyone knoe the year of this beat up 119?

With knife in hand and same orientation as your photograph, the stamp on the right, blade up, reads-
BUCK
119
U.S.A.
Spacers: Guard - aluminum, fiber, aluminum; phenolic handle.
Pommel - fiber, aluminum, fiber.
If I can do a photo then pigs can fly. Thanks.

It sounds like a 1973-'81 manufactured knife. If it has the three line stamp ( read blade pointed up) and 4 spacers, the date would have been '73-'81.

I'm impatiently waiting. Looks like it left Hazelwood Mo at midnight. Maybe it will come today but most likely tomorrow.

Well it came. I'm pleased with it. I'll try to take some photos of it in a bit. I think I'll do a little work on it and sharpen it up.

From what I gather from the Buck collector club site this should be 425m steel.I just said a few weeks ago on here I wanted to try something of Bucks in 425. :)

Kind of scratched up and a little bit of surface rust but I think some wet/dry sand paper may fix her up nice as a user.

Well it cleaned up pretty good. Rust spots removed and I was able to get the small nicks out of the edge. I might still have to send it into the spa though. I've spent a good deal of time trying to get it sharp and am just ending up with so-so sharp.

It looks good, and it took time to get that dull, so it will take some time to sharpen back to a hair poping edge. Have patience and work at it and it will come. You will be proud that you did it, instead of sending it off and letting Buck do it for you.

Try the sharpie trick, cover the edge with a black sharpie and then start sharpening your knife, if your hitting the angle properly the sharpie should come off on the very edge of the knife, if your sharpening wrong it will come off farther up off of the edge. You get the jist...

It's all about finding the right angle.

Thanks. I think I'll take your advice and keep working at it. Its kind of funny, I've eyed the 119 since I was a kid. I have all sorts of knives for users and many of them kind of pricey but I really like this thing. Don't know why I never picked on up before now.
