Looking for some information on the company halfbreed blades based out of Australia. They seem to make a good product from their website but can't find much about them. I'm guessing their fairly new. Looking at getting their LBK-01 model. Anybody with experience about these guys would be helpful.

That is a huge chunk of change for a Taiwanese made D2 fixed blade.

Never heard of 'em...
When they're in the same price neighborhood as some very well established, proven and respected, even hall of fame knife maker's out there; like Reeve and Winkler just to name 2 off the top: I'd be real hesitant to that spend that kind of money on an unestablished company with little to no info out there...

But it's your money.

I'm guessing it's 385 Au is about $258 USD.

The micarta is a nice touch (compared to the usual G10), but I would agree with the others, I wouldn't pay that for D2 steel.

I also don't know how many options you have in Australia.

M memphismed15 are you in the US and looking for something different? I assumed you were in Australia.

If you are in the US and looking for a hiking/bushcraft/survival knife ... let us know what size range you are looking for and rough budget, so we can give some specific recommendations.

I am in the US, sorry, I should've mentioned that. I actually like the MSK1 that's always sold out here in the states. I just happened to come across this company and noticed that their knife was basically the exact same design. I'm basically looking for something tough, I have always liked D2 and A2 steel, and reliable that can handle a multitude of tasks. I don't mind going into the $400 range if I know the knife will be worth it.

The LBK-01 looks an awful lot like Freeman Outdoor Gear's 5.0" Model Field Knife.

He's using CPM 3V, though.

Bark River has a couple in A2, that might be worth a look. I think. It's been a while since I checked BRK's website, for all I know, they may have gone to all "V"-flavored steels.

Look at Carothers Performance Knives. They are a bit hard to get new but come up on the exchange quite often. Here is their subforum:

Imo, they are the best thing going right now.

I take back my "a bit hard to get new" comment. The last sale had knives available for quite some time.

So for about the same price you can get a knife that is better in nearly every way, just my opinion of course. And you're not on the hook if it gets lost in the mail!

Myself, I'd get the 5" Model 451 from Freeman Outdoor Gear in Oregon. But that's me.

Halfbreed certainly shows a pile of guns in their photos. Didn't think they had those in Australia any more.

The Freeman Outdoor looks very nice. I like it. Am I losing anything by it being made from CPM 3V rather than A2? I understood A2 as being pretty indestructible. Am I wrong in that interpretation?

Most will consider 3v an upgrade over A2. I consider it a big upgrade.

It sounds to me like you might want to do some more research and reading before dropping that kind of money on a knife.

Welcome to the forums BTW.

Wow, that does look a lot like the Freeman. That is certainly a possibility.

Nothing wrong with A2 steel but I agree with craytab craytab . Most people would consider 3V a good size upgrade over A2.

Also look at the Bradford Guardian 5.5 . There is a choil and no choil version.

I see the same exact knife..or near it, with the same exact type of marketing, I just can't place it. If I figure it out, ill post it here.
