I got an email from an Antonio Carlson from Malta looking to place an order....He says he can only use his American issued credit card.

Just wondering if anyone here has dealt with him.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

I do not but I spoke with another maker today who got the same e-mail it sounds like as you did.

Be careful,
Even if it is legit., cover your backside or skip the deal....and I don't know how to "cover your backside" by doing the deal.......

This sounds very tricky. I would hesitate to deal with him on the basis of what you've said so far.

Who is he, what is his interest in knives, who can vouch for him?

Skip it. Ask yourself, is it really worth the chance to get scammed, frauded or otherwise mis-treated. Unfortunately there are people out there that do scam people and even worse small businesses and custom artists.

Unfortunately there is always the risk of the buyer filing a paypal chargeback dispute. Basically once he gets the item, he can file a dispute saying the item never arrived (unless you chose a shipping method that requires receipt signature, not likely in Malta), arrived but was defective, or that his account was hacked and the charge was unauthorized. I think the buyer has like 60 days to claim one of those. If he does (and will, this dude is definitely a scammer), then you are screwed. Paypal will take the money out of your account, and the guy will never send you back the item.

I sent an email today saying that I now only take payments in gold and silver. I also asked how much gold he would like to send me!

I got the same email about 3weeks ago..... I replied that, as with all overseas orders, I need him to go through PP or send an Int'l M/O before he gets a knife. He hasn't responded.

Morning,
I'm a winemaker in South Africa and I have received several emails from this Antonio Carlson character with precisely the same requirements - he can only pay with an american credit card. I must export my wine to Malta for him, he will pay me for the wine and I must include the shipping costs which he will all settle with his CC - but something was fishy when his email address is @yahoo, but stranger than that is that his prefered shipping agent also has a @yahoo account (Sky Shipping LTD). And when I asked for a shipping quote for my wine to Malta via his agent, I received the quote within 30 minutes which is unheard of (unless he had the quote ready for me). He is very well informed though, he knows what wines I produce and what they cost - sure, a little research and you can find that out, but that someone actually made the effort to target us specifically is weird. Luckily I did a search on his name in Google, and I found this page with his name and verbatim the same story as mine. So stay away from this guy.
Luckily, I love knives too since I live on a farm in Robertson, South Africa. I use my Kershaw Spec Bump everyday, its perfect for my application.

I don't sell blades, but I had an order from Antonio Carlson for 'one of each' of my products. When I asked him to make a choice of which he would like, he said "you choose". That's odd. Also the quote I got from his shippers is about seven times the cost of the products ???? I wrote back to him saying I had checked him out on Google and could see that there were others who were not happy about his foreign credit card payment, and I was going to check with my bank. We'll see if he replies. I have a feeling he won't!!
